from Ansar Khan of Mlive,
The list of potential unrestricted free agents includes goalies who will either re-sign with their clubs, cost more than the Red Wings are willing to spend, or not interested in joining a rebuilding team. That list could include Braden Holtby (Washington), Robin Lehner (Vegas), Jacob Markstrom (Vancouver), Jaroslav Halak (Boston), Corey Crawford (Chicago) and Anton Khudobin (Dallas).
Free-agent goalies who might be a fit for the Red Wings include Cam Talbot (Calgary), Thomas Greiss (Islanders) and Aaron Dell (San Jose).
Another possibility is trading for a goalie. If the Red Wings are considering that option, they will be closely following the Pittsburgh-Montreal qualifying round playoff series that begins on Saturday.
Penguins GM Jimmy Rutherford told The Athletic in May that he might be forced to trade one of his goalies, Matt Murray or Tristan Jarry. Both will be restricted free agents and Pittsburgh has salary cap concerns....
The Penguins could have a difficult decision on who to move. They appear content to go with Casey DeSmith as their backup. He is signed for two more years at a cap hit of $1.25 million.
Jake Allen of St. Louis is another option, after Craig Binnington led the Blues to last year’s Stanley Cup title. The Red Wings rejected the Blues’ offer of Allen for Jimmy Howard near the start of the 2018-19 season. Allen, 29, has one year remaining at a $4.35 million cap hit before becoming an unrestricted free agent.
