The Benefits Of The Jakub Vrana Trade

from Ted Kulfan of the Detroit News,

As the world awaits the identity of the next Red Wings coach — will it remain Jeff Blashill or be someone else — it appears there’s one less question mark regarding the team.

Jakub Vrana is going to be an exciting and possibly impactful player for the Wings. The 11 games at the end of the season, though a snippet of information, sure looked promising.

General manager Steve Yzerman, who hasn’t yet announced his decision whether to retain Blashill, has made a flurry of deals already in his two years retooling the roster.

But acquiring Vrana at this season’s trade deadline (along with Richard Panik and two draft picks) for Anthony Mantha could be an important one going forward.

The draft picks were Washington's 2021 first-round pick and 2022 second-round pick, so both players could be legitimate prospects. But more so, Vrana, in a brief sample size, looked special.

Max Bultman of Th Athletic,

Jared McIsaac must have developed a resilient sense of humor in the last two seasons.

Because after missing his last two games with a sprained AC joint — following surgeries on each shoulder in consecutive years —he didn’t shy away from the frustration of his already-shortened 2021 season being shut down a few days early, due to an injury of the shoulder joint where two bones meet.

“No surgeries required,” McIsaac said with a chuckle. “So just short-term.”

McIsaac called it “a little bump” and “nothing serious,” which surely has to be a relief, even though it will force McIsaac to miss the Grand Rapids Griffins’ final two games of the season this weekend. But as much as McIsaac could muster that wry laugh Thursday morning, no one could have faulted him had he been dejected, either..

The sprained AC joint certainly throws its own wrench into that, but seemingly convinced this injury is minor, McIsaac has his eyes already turned forward toward the next challenge facing him.

“I haven’t had a full summer the past two summers to actually work on my upper body,” McIsaac said. “I’ve been rehabbing both summers, so it’s a big summer for that. It’s a big summer in general, preparing for next year.”...

“Having not played that long, in quite a while, playing a ton of games in a short amount of time, it can catch up to you,” Simon said. “I think that he did show glimpses of what he is: two-way guy that can contribute offensively. Things happen a little bit quicker at this level, so again, the more you’re put in those situations, the better served you’re going to be in the future. And we tried to put him in those situations: PP, PK. Hopefully he’ll take those experiences and be better for them next season.”...

“He’s got a bright future,”  Simon said. “He’s just gotta find a way to stay healthy.”

Let’s hope he goes the route of Kronwall and Helm and turns his injury plauged start into a decent career contributing to a cup win! Hard not to root for these guys.

I think I will wait for awhile to see the winner of the Trade. Drafts especially!

Can’t think of anyone that young hurt so much.  He looked OK playing for Canada but I was sitting on Pins and Needles when he was on the Ice.  He has talent and can help the Wings

I am pretty sure Yzerman did his due diligence and already spoke with Gallant during this season and possibly last season before extending Blashill.

Yzerman never extended Blash. At least not yet.

Yzerman chose to exercise the franchise option on Blashill’s third year of his Holland contract, so it was effectively an extension if we’re not determined to nitpick words.
