Just so y’all know:  Caps’ Mantha had a one-point (1A) game, but was -2.  Didn’t even know he had the secondary assist on Ovie’s goal.  Guess he wasn’t visible all game long.

Kevin Allen of Detroit Hockey Now,

When Dylan Larkin scored the game-winner at 1:37 of OT he was on the ice with youngsters Lucas Raymond and Moritz Seider. Raymond drew the first assist for the set-up pass. Seider also drew an assist. They rank first and second in NHL rookie scoring with eight points and six points respectively.

Seven games into their NHL career, Blashill has considerable confidence in their ability. Both rookies handled the puck with composure and purpose before Dylan Larkin ended up burying the winning shot.

“I think (these moments) are important for growth,” Blashill said. “But that’s not why we had them out there. We had them out there because we think they give us a chance to make a real good hockey play and they did.”

Filip Hronek was back in Detroit’s lineup after being benched for the past two games. Hronek played at a high level,  logging a team-high 24:25 minutes. He made a nice play along the boards to set-up Detroit’s first goal by Adam Erne.

Hronek had the assist, plus three shots on goal and two blocked shots. He was also +2 on the night.

Blashill never explained why Hronek was benched.

“(He) competed hard,” Blashill said. “I thought Fil played really good. I think he’s got the mental toughness to come into a situation like that, after being out for a couple of games, and play real good hockey.”

3 more game takeaways…

Some people owe Adam Erne an apology, the guy is an impact player, he’s bringing it, unsure a kid in GR has the same impact as Erne is having right now. I wonder when Zadina or Fabri will be moved with Ram and Erne to become our 2nd line, or if Blash keeps what is a plus matchup with them on the 3rd.

Speaking of Jeff, even the Blashill haters have to admit, he has this team bought it, and competing hard, and he is putting best talent out on the ice as he always has, we just didn’t like who was best talent cause they were not prospects. Long season, we’ll see, but with talent to work with, he’s doing well thus far.

Does Fabri complete a shift on his feet? Man that guy is all over the ice.

Despite not producing much offensively, I can not hate on Zadina’s game.  If he was drafted in the 2nd round, we’d all be very happy, he moves the puck well, forchecks well, gets dirty in corners for his size, etc. etc. I just hope he can start getting more off on his chances, snipe more pucks, but I think that he would have flashed that already if it was going to be a part of his game.

I didn’t notice him one time out there.  Not surprised though.

You can see Blash is having a fun time. The camera showed the bench at one point and he was walking back and forth with a grin from ear to ear.  I have never, ever seen that guy having so much fun and being so lighthearted.  I’m sure it’s a combination of things, but it probably has to do with having a capable roster for a change.

You missed the thought bubble from Blashill, TK.  ‘Smart move by me to scratch Hronek and then use him for 25 minutes.’

Zadina and Erne were switched in the third period and the very first shift by a new line led to a Fabbri goal. We often here about Blashill blender, but in this case he noticed Erne was having the best game of the season, moved him to the second line and it immediately paid dividends.
