Oh OK ... twist my arm ... I’m a glutton for punishment.

After going 1-7 in round 1 how much dumber can I look ??

Don’t answer that ... LOL

Boston vs Columbus—> Columbus in 6 (if it took 7 games to beat toronto ...)

NY Islanders vs Carolina—> NY Islanders in 6 (mrazek is gunna hafta play his ass off if carolina has any kind of chance)

St. Louis vs Dallas—> St. Louis in 5 (binnington is hotter than hot)

San Jose vs Colorado—> Colorado in 7 (martin is inconsistent in goal and colorado is healthier)

CBJ in 6
NYI in 5

STL in 7
COL in 6

Considering I only have 1 player left out of 12 total in my $100 draft pool thanks to the first round, I’m pretty sure these picks are all wrong! McIndoe’s column about the two doors on The Athletic is ringing pretty true for me right now, and I don’t like it at all.

I have a ton of confidence in these picks?

First up Round 1 recap:
BZZT! Tampa Bay Lightning/Columbus Blue Jackets - TBL (5)  Way too strong a roster to get bounced early.
DING!Boston Bruins/Toronto Maple Leafs - BOS (6) Everyone is picking BOS which makes me rethink my choice, but I just don’t see TOR matching up favorably here.  The post-season is a different beast than the regular season, but I don’t see it as a tonic for the Maple Leafs.
DING DING DING!Washington Capitals/Carolina Hurricanes - CAR (7)  WAS returns to earth and Brind’Amour pushes his squad even harder.
DING!New York Islanders/Pittsburgh Penguins - NYI (7) on the backs of their netminding.
BZZT!Calgary Flames/Colorado Avalanche - CGY (6) Tough to pick this series as its so goaltender dependent.
BZZT!San Jose Sharks/Vegas Golden Knights - VGK (7) Fleury > Jones
DING DING DING!Nashville Predators/Dallas Stars - DAL (6) Stars seem built to make a run, and I think NSH is vulnerable
BZZT!Winnipeg Jets/St. Louis Blues - WIN (7) Toss-up 7th game here.  I don’t like Winnipeg going deep this year, but I think they’ve got enough to beat a team that’s got to have a bit of a let-down now that they’re in the post-season.

4 for 8.

Round 2

CLB 7 over BOS By far the hardest series for me to pick.  I don’t love going with the BJ’s, but call it a hunch.
NYI in 5 over CAR Islanders on a roll, and I think that CAR is going to play satisfied after their Round 1 win
DAL in 7 over STL Team defense is superior to a netminder playing well
COL in 6 over SJS Last year I picked against the VGK in every round until the Finals, and I got them wrong each time.  San Jose is shaping up to be that team for me this time around.

Most years if I went 4 for 8 in the first round I would consider that ‘meh’ at best but this year I’m looking like a genius.
Now I’m sure to be embarrassed with the following picks,

Columbus in 7

Islanders in 6

St. Louis in 5

Avocado Collie Ranch in 6

I actually went 4-4 in round 1, which is not terrible, considering… Even got the number of games right on 2 of them (SJS and DAL)!

CBJ in 6 - Heck, magic strikes twice. The roster Jarmo put together is figuring it out just in time. It would also be cool to see CBJ hang an “Atlantic Division Champions” banner at their arena.

NYI in 7 - Not even sure how the Isles are this good, but they are.

STL in 6 - Binnington Binnington Binnington

COL in 6 - Sharkie looked a step slow against Vegas and the Avs are even faster. If Pavelski is out for long or Jones returns to shaky, sub 900 goaltending, this could be over quick.

Check out how you did in round 1.

OMG 0-8 WTF!  I guess I didn’t watch as much non-red wing hockey as I normally do.  Welp, can’t get any worse, so let’s try it again…

Boston Bruins vs. Columbus Blue Jackets
Give me Bob and the Breadman

New York Islanders against the Carolina Hurricanes
Go with Lehner over Mrazek

St, Louis Blues vs. Dallas Stars
Didn’t watch much of either series, Blues always seem to choke, Bishop takes up 80% just standing, I’ll go Stars, Mustache Cowboy and his crew…

San Jose Sharks vs. Colorado Avalanche
Hard to trust either goalie in this series. Even harder to trust a Chumpo Joe Chokin team will advance, especially when they should be home if not for an over reaching official,.  EK definitely injured, and he and team should be the more tired of the two teams.  That said, Sharks have a lot of star talent, and Fluery couldn’t stop the Sharks PP, Grubauer has no chance. Red Wings get another step closer to a 2nd round pick.

Can’t do any worse than the 0-fer that I put up in round one…

I feel pretty solid after my 3 for 8, all things considered. Historic first round, y’know.
