Why Is Erik Karlsson Tired?

11/01/2015 at 9:00am EST

from Don Brennan of the Ottawa Sun,

After admitting he chose rest over training in the summer, Erik Karlsson probably shouldn't be using the word "tired" three weeks into the schedule.

Even if it is just a way of expressing his detest for the new 3-on-3 overtime format.

Karlsson averaged 27:18 of ice time while suiting up for all 82 games en route to winning his second Norris Trophy last season. By the 10-game mark, not once had he played less than 25:54.

Through 10 games this October, he dipped below that number four times (22:37, 22:57, 24:38 and 25:28) and averaged 26:46 per night.

Maybe he's tired of spending more time on the bench?...

Could he really just be tired of missing the net (15 times in 10 games) or having opponents line up to block his shots?

Or perhaps he's tired of being undressed in the defensive zone, as Tomas Tatar did when he joined a growing list by blowing past Karlsson for the first good scoring chance of Saturday's game in its second minute?

If it is really about the 3-on-3, which everyone thought Karlsson would dominate, maybe he's tired of not living up to the expectations?
