from Brett Cyrgalis of the New York Post,
“I don’t know if anyone saw his ear there, but he lost a piece of it and they sewed it back,” coach Alain Vigneault said. “Say what you what you want about hockey players, but they’re tough SOBs.”
Klein said he got “about 13-14 stitches, we didn’t have time to count.”

from Tom Timmermann of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch,
The Blues also got a scare and a jump start with the injury and then the return of captain David Backes. He took a puck to the face in the first period, went straight to the dressing room and came back 22 minutes of ice time later, sporting a full cage but otherwise looking no worse for wear for a guy who had, you know, just taken a puck to the face. The pain, however, was apparently too much for Backes, who skated four shifts in the second period but then didn’t come out for the third. “That’s a lot of dental work for one night,” said coach Ken Hitchcock. “The doctors pulled him out and we were in the process of telling him, thanks, but you have to take a break here. Hopefully he’s ready for Thursday.”
