Video- The Avalanche Won’t Forget The Cheap Shot From Byfuglien

from Adrian Dater of All Things Avs,

I barely caught this with the naked eye at the end of the game, when the Jets won with 1.7 seconds left in overtime on Blake Wheeler’s goal. Technology allows us to see just what a little cheap shot it was by Jets defenseman Dustin Byfuglien right after the goal went in. This probably won’t result in any suspension, but rest assured the Avs won’t forget it the next time the teams play.

He’s not easy to put a body on, but the Avs need to lay Byfuglien on his butt the next time they play for this. Semyon Varlamov almost did, with a full stick swing his direction.

How was that not goalie interference on Byfuglien, that first shove in the crease? I don’t think Patrick Roy had seen this when he did his post-game presser, otherwise we probably would have heard a lot about it.

continue for more on the Avs OT loss to the Jets including  P.A. Parenteau having an MRI on his injured knee...

via Sportsnet, watch the game highlights below including the Parenteau injury and the Byfuglien incident...

All I can say is that this kind of shit goes on all the time. You can bet if an Avs player did this, Dater would be praising him for getting into the head of the opponent and being hard to play against. Dater continually praises cheap shots and bad sportsmanship as long as it’s committed by his Avs.

In short, Daters gonna hate.

Did he just push him? Reading the title I was assuming a slew foot or butt end or something dirty. I guess you can’t shove the goalie, but that wasnt that bad.

It really is a bit absurd, isn’t it?  Dater is paid to cover hockey and this is his idea of a cheap shot?  Meanwhile, to the rest of the hockey world, it’d probably be the sixty-third most “cheap shot”-ish hit that Dater’s beloved “Highlander” made this year if it’d been him doing it.

Maybe next time Varlamov should picture his girlfriend at the receiving end of his slash instead of Byfuglien…then maybe he’d actually do some damage.

Benoit caused the incidental contact. The only way that’s not a clean goal is if the forward wore 96 on a red or white sweater.

As far as the poke to the face, yeah, it was unnecessary and cheap. But big deal. The two hander to the backs of the legs made up for it by also being unnecessary and cheap.

Oh, Dater, you entertaining, Dive-munching Darren Garcia, you.

So just to be clear, we have an Avs writer publicly suggesting on-ice retribution against another team’s player for a cheap shot.

I know the Steve Moore incident was almost 10 years ago, but I still find it hard to believe that Dater is missing the irony here.
