I’d like to think the league takes a look at that, and serves Kadri up with a couple games off. What a cheap shit thing to do.

Realistically though, with a beard like that it’s tough to grab Thorntons jersey by the collar and NOT get any beard.

Either way, kadri is a cheap backstabbing sort of player and hopefully gets his just deserts.

from Luke Fox of Sportsnet,
“That was messy,” San Jose Sharks coach Pete DeBoer chuckled.
“I’ve seen a lot of things over 25 years of coaching. I’ve never seen a clump of beard on the ice before.”
more reaction…

Seriously, not sure how you grab on to his jersey without getting a handful of his beard. Kadri’s a turd but I can’t really fault him on this one.

No fan of Kadri but with a foot long beard stuff is going to happen.

What a load of bull. Nobody in the history of time has ever accidentally ripped out a handful of someone else’s beard.

Any of you guys complaining that it’s cheap need to take a look at the NFL, where they finally had to decide that it was OK to grab and tackle a guy by his dreadlocks/hair, and if players didn’t like it, they needed to not wear them/it down, because the NFL realized there was absolutely no way in the heat of the moment they could ask a player to recognize just *what* they grabbed.
Similarly, if Thornton doesn’t want his beard to be potentially grabbed in a fight, maybe wear it shorter or do something different.
Or don’t go getting into fights.
Seriously, it doesn’t matter whether you like Kadri or not. This is on Thornton, and is probably long overdue to happen to one of these guys with the ridiculous mountain man beards.

via the CP at TSN,
Asked whether the rule book covered beard-pulling, the NHL pointed to Rule 75.2 (ii) which says:
“Any player who is guilty of unsportsmanlike conduct including, but not limited to hair-pulling, biting, grabbing hold of a face mask, etc. If warranted, and specifically when injury results, the referee may apply Rule 21 – Match Penalties.”
Both combatants only got fighting majors.
It appears the referees decided the beard interaction was unintentional. Or perhaps, like everyone else watching, it just took a while to figure out what had just happened.

I remember a good few years back Thornton, in a scrum, was trying to get Kronwall to
fight him or something, and intentionally pulled his hair. Remember Kadri
dropping to take Ovechkin’s knees last Spring? He’s a good player, but
not a very likable.
Not of fan of Kadri and it’s hard for me to believe this was totally unintentional,
but Thornton’s proven to be a jerk on the ice throughout his career, too.
The Soggy Bottom Boys beards are beyond tired. One more reason to casually
dislike the Sharks.

Pulling out Thornton’s beard seems about right for kadri…
I seem to recall a fight many many years ago during a wings game, and someone pulled the other guys hair and received a gross misconduct penalty. Perhaps the rulebook has been re-written since that time.
Either way, kadri is a cheap backstabbing sort of player and hopefully gets his just deserts.
