Video- John Tavares Spears The Stomach Of Marek Zidlicky

from Rich Chere of NJ.com,

The call? A slashing minor.

“Zid stepped up in the neutral zone on him with a clean hit,” Devils coach Pete DeBoer said. “It looked from the bench like (Tavares) speared him. I don’t know why it was a slashing call.”

Zidlicky confirmed he was speared.

“I don’t think that was necessary what he did,” the defenseman said.

Was he hurt?

“A little bit the first couple of seconds. He hit my stomach,” Zidlicky said. “I’m okay.“

I was at the game and had a front row seat for this.  Huge Tavares fan - but - something is not right with him.  I do think he is healthy - but not sure.  I think it’s in his mind.  Something is not right with him.  He is NOT playing well.  He speared him.  Zidlicky was roughing up Ryan Strome and others all night.  But that does not excuse the spear.

I don’t think that had anything to do with the spear.  Seems to me Tavares was reacting to getting taken out one second before.

It’ll be interesting if player safety chimes in on this. They really can’t let stuff like this slide.
