I remember the games at the Olympia during the 1966 SCF’s between Detroit and Montreal which I attended. The Red Wings won the first 2 games in Montreal, and I thought for sure the Red Wings would win the Cup. Unfortunately Montreal won the next 4 games in a row with the Pocket Rocket (Henri Richard) pushing the Stanley Cup winning goal into the net during O.T. with his arm for the Stanley Cup winning goal. I couldn’t believe it. I remember Gary Bergman chasing referee Frank Udvari almost to the locker room in disbelief. During one of the home games Alex Delveccio (sp) was carrying the puck out of his defensive zone when Beliveau stripped the puck from him, and went in on Roger Crozier, deked him and put the puck into the net. I had a sinking feeling after that goal that the Red Wings would not win the Cup.

I’ve watched a lot of tributes and footage but wow… Tim Thompson never disappoints. That was the best. And Beliveau… what a man, just a beautiful human being.

Great job by Tim, who was the man behind many of the HNIC opening montages.
