Tyler Myers Is Not A Fit For The Vancouver Canucks

from Patrick Johnston of the Vancouver Province,

Tyler Myers is not a bad hockey player, let’s be clear on that point.

His statistical record has lots to commend him: he has done a nice job of putting up points in his career, with 265 in 635 career games. That alone tells us that he’s a solid NHL player.

And the last two seasons in Winnipeg, he’s surpassed 30 points both times.

But he’s still not a player the Vancouver Canucks should be looking to sign.

It doesn’t take much digging before you start to find worrying signs about him.

Simply put: Myers, who can clearly move the puck and is a giant at 6-8, is not a great defensive defenceman. His five-on-five ice time requires management. And he’s 29. And he’s also going to be chasing a new contract from a position of strength: there are going to be lots of suitors after his signature.
