from Craig Handel of the Naples Daily News,
For 25 years, Darryl Belfry has been fascinated with the science of hockey.
From replaying grainy tapes of ‘Hockey Night in Canada’ games to watching top youth players in small, chilly rinks, the part-time Naples resident studied success and developed a detailed view on teaching skills quicker and more efficiently.
“It’s the only job I’ve ever had,” said Belfry, who discovered Naples as a vacation spot. “I’ve been going at this pretty hard. It’s a very interesting road to get to this point.”
The 44-year-old Canadian finished his first Darryl Belfry Florida Tactics and Tuneup Camp at Germain Arena on Thursday.
His students? Patrick Kane, Ryan Hartman and Nick Schmaltz (Chicago Blackhawks), Claude Giroux, Shayne Gostisbehere (Philadelphia Flyers), Auston Matthews, Morgan Reilly (Toronto Maple Leafs), Seth Jones, Zach Werenski, Jack Johnson (Columbus Blue Jackets), Mike Mattheson (Florida Panthers), Jack Eichel (Buffalo Sabres), Lars Eiler (Washington Capitals), Kyle Palmieri (New Jersey Devils), Cam Fowler (Anaheim Ducks) and Noah Hanifin (Carolina Hurricanes).
