James van Riemsdyk and Tyler Bozak wore black baseball caps Friday, as if mourning their last day as Maple Leafs.

The unrestricted free agents have a combined 1,000-plus games for the franchise, yet van Riemsdyk is all but gone — due a raise that would upset the salary structure soon to be in place for the younger Leaf stars — while Bozak would likely have to provide a hometown discount to stay.

Also unemployed as of July 1: winger Leo Komarov, playoff rental centre Tomas Plekanec, centre Dominic Moore and defenceman Roman Polak. Komarov and Polak are maybes to return as they are favourites of coach Mike Babcock, but a JVR-Bozak exit means two thirds of a forward line is gone.
