The Jimmy Vesey Watch

from Joe McDonald of ESPN,

After two days of meetings with seven teams, NHL prospect Jimmy Vesey and his agents are scheduled to sit and discuss the player's options, beginning at 4 p.m. Thursday.

A decision will not be made Thursday, but is expected by week's end, and as early as Friday....

"Impressive meetings with a lot of different perspectives has certainly given the camp a lot to think about," said Peter Donatelli, one of Vesey's agents.

Despite reports, no team has been told it is out of the running, according to Donatelli.

All that comes to mins Fabian Brunnstrom the 2nd. Justin Schultz also comes to mind in this type of situation as well. Any others?

DDK, but he appears to have not been a bust.

FTFY though either way I’d have to agree.

Can’t help but feel this guy will get $3m+ somewhere only to get benched early.  I have a hard time seeing how college success is a better indicator than AHL success.

What you call “bratitis” I call, getting paid while your stock is high.

Yup. And for Vesey that’s bound to translate into a hell of a lot of pressure to perform this coming season.

Some Vesey comparables.

Not much of a sample size.

People seem to be really blowing this out of proportion.

He exercised the rights he had according to the NHL and has taken a few interviews.

That’s it.

He’s a brat?  Why?  Because he took hold of an opportunity that he had?

And people are also acting as if he’s been weighing his options since the draft like every other free agent.  If he takes another day and a half to sign he will still have taken less time any other free agent had this year.  The fact that the media has been talking about it all summer doesn’t have anything to do with him being a primadonna.

One of the times I feel bad for both NSH and BUF who really could have used his talents…esp. NSH under Laviolette who opened up the ice for his offensive-minded players.  And it would have been something to see Eichel and Vesey heading up their top six as centermen of the future.

Sorry, just saw that Vesey’s a winger but still the potential to have Vesey and Eichel on the same line would have been exciting to watch.

“one of”?  How the $^%* many agents does he need?

Run, don’t walk, away from this kid.

re: “agents”...“Global Hockey Consultants” isn’t exactly a behemoth compared to some of the other agencies (Newport etc). They represent Eichel, Vesey and a pile of scrubs errr bottom 6 players, from what I can see.

Vessey is not your typically college free agent like DeKeyser. DeKeyser was undrafted. Vessey was drafted by Nashville but they could never agree to terms making him a free agent again.

Since this seems like a possible route for many players it is surprising more don’t take it. What high profile player wouldn’t want more freedom choosing his destination.

Just like Sadowy and the Ducks/ Redwings ...Only Kenny managed to get it done. Hopefully it will be one of his brite spots and not just a loss on waivers.

Well, there’s a loophole to get to the fast bucks:  finish your four years in college, you’re 22-24 years old, you don’t sign with the team that drafted you, you’re an instant free agent, and take your pick of teams that want you.  Boom.  Five-year deal, $20 million.
