from Pat Hickey of the Montreal Gazette,
“It’s about time.”
That was Guy Carbonneau’s response Friday when he was asked about general manager Marc Bergevin’s off-season overhaul of the Canadiens.
“I really like what Marc has done,” Carbonneau said during a photo shoot for the marketing firm Groupe MVP. “They still have veterans like Carey Price and Shea Weber and we’ve seen young players like Nick Suzuki and (Jesperi) Kotkaniemi step up. With the moves in the off-season, they’ve added players that have proven themselves in the NHL.”...
“They have the ability to put whoever you want on the ice against anyone and that is a huge plus,” said Carbonneau, who coached the Canadiens for parts of three seasons after he finished a Hall of Fame playing career.
Carbonneau said that depth is particularly important because of the uncertainty hanging over the coming season.
“Everyone is in a waiting situation and we don’t know when or if they’re going to start and how many games they are going to play,” said Carbonneau. “Whatever number of games they play, it’s going to be a tight schedule. There are going to be a lot of three games in four nights, maybe four games in five nights. Rest is going to be important and being able to roll four lines and six defencemen and two goaltenders is going to be a huge advantage for a team.”
