The Blues Are Hurting

via Jeremy Rutherford tweets,

I don't ever remember walking around a locker room and seeing so many walking boots, casts, ice bags and ace bandages in my career

It's sounding as if Berglund's injury is serious, and the #stlblues will be without seven of their top 12 forwards Sunday.

Here's the Patrik Beglund injury...

Huge crocodile tears

We appreciate their pain but, given the Wings injury woes, don’t feel overly sympathetic toward them. The Blues are dirty and mean but these injuries can occur with any team.

The speed of the game, the equipment worn by players, the lack of respect shown by some, the failure of the officials to call what used to be charging, the misplaced emphasis on not allowing players to police themselves, the chintzy penalties that are called while dirty play is let go….all of that, and more, has resulted in this epidemic of injuries.

The league has become paranoid for all the wrong reasons and their obsession with the minor hooks and fouls is creating a huge problem….while the board work and cross checking often goes unpunished. D men should be able to contain a forward, and sometimes do, but you never know what standard is going to be set….. so what is penalized on one shift may be called on another.

It is time for more video review and decision-making based on the video evidence in some of these situations. Too time-consuming? Not for the team or its fans whose player is hurt or get a bad call going against them. It happens all to frequently…and needs to be resolved, especially where goals are scored or injuries occur.

Edited last line, paragraph 3 ……so what is NOT called on one shift may be called on another.

And at the worst possible time while the Wings are just getting some guys back in time for the playoffs.

Dear Gord, I forgot the Wings are playing these yahoos at noon ET on Sunday.  That’s a 9am start time here in Vegas and the West Coast.  I should be awake to catch it.
