Team Russia Olympic Roster

Russia has announced its roster for the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi, Russia.

Alex Ovechkin, Evgeni Malkin and former New Jersey Devils sniper Ilya Kovalchuk highlight the 25 names unveiled by the host nation.

The complete Russian roster is as follows:

Goalkeepers: Sergei Bobrovsky, Semyon Varlamov, Alexander Yeryomenko.

Defenders: Anton Belov, Alexei Emelin, Andrei Markov, Evgeny Medvedev, Nikita Nikitin, Ilya Nikulin, Fedor Tyutin, Slava Voynov.

Forwards: Artem Anisimov, Pavel Datsyuk, Denis Kokarev, Ilya Kovalchuk, Nikolai Kulemin, Evgeni Malkin, Valeri Nichushkin, Alex Ovechkin, Alexander Popov, Alexander Radulov, Sergei Soin, Vladimir Tarasenko, Alexei Tereshenko, Viktor Tikhonov.

A whole lot of KHLer’s on the team.  That does not bode well for there chances to compete for Gold, let alone a medal.  They easily sit behind Canada, USA, Sweden, and the Czech team.

I wouldn’t want to be on Team Russia if they don’t come away with a gold….that’s all I’m saying….

The Russians always put a lot of KHLers on the team. Perhaps they think it will be better for chemistry, and that on the bigger ice they’ll do better. I don’t have an opinion on that.

I’m going to be the obligatory Red Wings’ complainer and note that Datsyuk apparently does not highlight the 25 names unveiled by the host nation.

He’s not naturally talented enough to be highlighted.

He’s lucky he isn’t American or he wouldn’t hav made the team due to not being intense enough.
