Sunday’s Short Hockey Notes

from Stan Fischler of The Fischler Report,

* At this point in time the Rangers are no longer the underdog to win The Cup.

* Matter of fact, the Blueshirts go in as the favorites over either Chicago of L.A.

* Look at it this way; New York has the top goalie; more depth on defense; and four balanced lines.

* What's more, the Rangers fourth line, paced by the Comeback Kid, Dom Moore, is better than any fourth line on the Kings or Hawks.

* Tom Renney is my choice as head coach of the Panthers.

* Trouble is that I have no idea who's Dale Tallon's pick.

This is silly, the only reason you can legitimately consider the Rangers favorites over the Kings (or the Hawks, had they won) is because of fatigue. The West is so much better than the East. Of course the Rangers have a chance, but the only reason you could really consider them the favorites is because you have to wonder if the gas tank is empty in L.A. I think there’s a damn good argument that the Kings have already beat three of the five best teams in the league in this playoff run (themselves being one of the others).

As an impartial observer, I just hope that both teams are relatively healthy for the duration of the series and that both goalies play up to their potential.

Funny then, that (nearly) every analyst is predicting Kings over Rangers.
