Craig Custance tweet,

For those speculating about Detroit, here’s what we know:
- Holland signed 2-year extension with the Red Wings in April
- per @JoeSmithTB, Yzerman has one year left on his deal w/TB
- There’s an internal appetite to sort out future roles for current Detroit management group

Custance again,

For obvious reasons, Yzerman has always been reticent about talking about any future job in Detroit always deferring to his current position and focus in TB.

there is a year left on his TB contract.  So, he’s using the advisory role to transition Brisbois?

What is happening.

I’m hoping he informed Vinik he intends on returning to Detroit, and fulfilling his contract as an advisor can allow his successor in Tampa room to grow in the role.

I’m worried that there is something we aren’t aware of yet and if it’s something medical related forcing him to step back.

Still a shocking time for him to step back considering the powerhouse he has built and being on the verge of winning the cup.

I expect that he’s tired of the sun and is looking forward to the overcast sky of Seattle.

The thought that it might be a family or health issue did come to mind… I guess we will know more at 4pm??

The timing is odd.

My first thought was not that he was free to go to DET, but that there’s maybe something else that has taken precedence.  I really have no idea why he’d leave TB to be honest.

#tblightning owner Jeff Vinik had been hopeful + optimistic early in the summer to sign Yzerman to an extension.

I wonder if he told Vinik he was not going to extend, prompting Vinik to ask him to step down as he doesn’t want a GM with one foot out the door.

This is so….odd.  He specifically said he had unfinished business and wouldn’t leave until they won a Cup.  They seem so close now, so why step down?

This is interesting.  I’m really curious to know more, but so far this is the shocker of the off-season.  Heck, this might be the surprise of the ENTIRE season (17-18 and 18-19 combined).

Or, maybe he’s coming back to save the Lions.  I’m sure he could contribute.
