Steve Mayer Joins The NHL As An Executive Vice President

NEW YORK (Dec. 8, 2015) – The National Hockey League (NHL) announced today that nine-time Emmy Award-winner Steve Mayer has been named Executive Vice President and Executive Producer, Programming & Creative Development. Mayer joins the NHL after a 20-year career at IMG Productions. Most recently, he served as IMG’s Executive Producer and SVP of IMG Productions, the world’s largest producer of sports programming.

Mayer will be based in the NHL’s New York office, reporting to Commissioner Gary Bettman.

“I am thrilled by the opportunity to join the NHL and help bring to life a number of major events for fans across North America,” Mayer said. “I have always admired the League’s forward thinking approach under Commissioner Bettman’s leadership and am happy now to be in a position to execute and advance that vision in the coming years.”

Mayer has been the producer of several network variety specials, including NHL Awards (NBC), NBA All-Star All-Style (TNT), Hall of Game Awards (Cartoon Network), Boston Pops Fireworks Spectacular (CBS), Super Bowl’s Greatest Commercials (CBS), Tony Awards Preview Show (CBS), World’s and Year’s Funniest Commercials (TBS/ Spike), and Christmas at Rockefeller Center (NBC).

Mayer also has a number of highly acclaimed reality and documentary shows on his production resume, including the current Showtime hit ‘A Season With Notre Dame Football.’ Mayer also has been executive producer of Hoops U (Showtime), NHL Revealed (NBC/ CBC), Race to the Altar (NBC), I’d Do Anything (ESPN), Manhunt (Bravo), Battle of Network Stars (NBC), Better Half (Bravo), Battle of the Gridiron Stars (ESPN) and Beer Money (SNY).

The native of Union, New Jersey has produced numerous live sporting events, including the NHL Winter Classic, All-Star Fantasy Draft, All-Star Skills Competition and Game, the NFL Hall of Fame Enshrinement, the Ryder Cup Opening and Closing Ceremonies and numerous halftime shows for the NFL.

He also has produced five Olympic games, including Bravo’s Olympic coverage from London in 2012, as well as producer of the Morning Show at the Olympic games in Sydney for NBC. Over his career, Mayer has produced hundreds of tennis events and has been lead producer for the Australian, French and U.S. Opens. For the last ten years, Mayer has been the Executive Producer of the New York City Marathon (ESPN).
