from Paul Gackle of the Mercury News,
It’s a script that Sharks fans are all too familiar with. If they turned it into a full-length movie it would probably be called, “Five Minutes Late.”
For the eighth time in 16 franchise meetings with the Vegas Golden Knights, the Sharks surrendered the opening goal less than five minutes into the first period. By the 6:11 mark, Vegas held a 3-0 lead, making Game 2 of the opening-round series look like a sequel of last year’s Game 1 showdown between the Pacific Division rivals that saw the Sharks fall behind 4-0 in 11:43 en route to a 7-0 loss.
Despite the slow start, special teams ultimately decided Friday’s game. The Sharks went 1-for-8 on the power play, surrendering a pair of shorties. To make matters worse, the Knights also picked up a third period power play goal, which ended up being the game winner.
“It hard to win this time of year if you don’t win special teams,” Sharks coach Pete DeBoer said.
Below are the game highlights.
