With the completion of the 2018 NHL Draft in Dallas on Saturday, the focus turns to the beginning of the interview eriod for potential unrestricted free agents on Sunday.

During the interview period, teams can discuss general parameters of a possible contract with potential UFAs to lay the groundwork for when the free agent market opens at 12 p.m. ET on July 1.

Here are the biggest questions to be answered in free agency this year:

Will John Tavares re-sign with the New York Islanders?

Tavares reportedly will talk with five teams other than the Islanders during the interview period to determine if he wants to return as New York's captain or play elsewhere. The Athletic reported that the Toronto Maple Leafs, San Jose Sharks and Dallas Stars are expected to be among the teams to talk with the 27-year-old center and his agent, Pat Brisson.

Re-signing Tavares remains the top priority for Islanders general manager Lou Lamoriello, who has the advantage of being able to give him an eight-year contract. The maximum contract term for other teams trying to sign Tavares is seven years....

Will John Carlson leave the Washington Capitals?

After GM Brian MacLellan said Friday that the Capitals were "really close" to signing Carlson to an extension and that he hoped to get a deal done with the 28-year-old defenseman before the interview period opened, Carlson remained unsigned Sunday. His agent, Rick Curran, said he is continuing to negotiate with the Capitals, but with no deal in place they are taking calls from other teams and listening....
