By Joe Sudberg,

After a thrilling 3-2 win for the Pittsburgh Penguins in Game 1, expect a hotly-contested Stanley Cup Final opposite the San Jose Sharks. Prior to making the Finals, both teams took very different paths to win their respective conferences.

Pittsburgh was in complete disarray in December when former head coach Mike Sullivan was fired, but righted the ship as the season progressed and finished strongly in March and April to secure a playoff bid. Pittsburgh feeds off Sidney Crosby and Evgeni Malkin’s play, so expect them to step up early on in this series and also to provide opportunities for teammates. Crosby and Malkin’s supporting cast is filled with speed skaters, so expect an intense pace in this series. San Jose won the Western Conference by playing physical hockey and forcing their opponents in tough situations. Joe Pavelski leads the league with 13 playoff goals, so expect him to be active in this series.

Since these two teams are facing off in the Stanley Cup Final, ticket prices are commanding premiums compared to prior round averages. However, when comparing this year’s average ticket price for the Stanley Cup Final to average ticket for the last few Stanley Cup Finals, the Sharks-Penguins series offers the most value ($958.62 average ticket price per game).
