from Bruce Garrich of the Ottawa Sun,
- The Jets and defenceman Jacob Trouba are at the stalemate stage. The word is there have been a couple of short discussions between Jets GM Kevin Cheveldayoff and Trouba’s Colorado-based agent Kurt Overhardt and we’re led to believe those may have been less than a minute. The Jets have made it clear they’re not going to just give Trouba away because he has asked for a trade and the reality is this all going to come to a head before Dec. 1. A restricted free agent, the 22-year-old Trouba has to sign somewhere by then or he may as well go spend the winter playing in Switzerland. “Every day he sits and waits for a trade is another day that costs him money,” a league insider told Insider Trading on Friday. Yes, the Bruins and Wings have both shown genuine interest, but Cheveldayoff is standing firm in getting what he wants in return.
- The word is the Ducks are approximately $250,000 a year apart on a six-year deal with RFA defenceman Hampus Lindholm. Many expect the situation to resolve itself soon and for Lindholm, who was believed to be demanding more than $6 million per season when the negotiation started. Once he does sign, the Ducks will have a decision to make on defence and many teams have called about Cam Fowler. The Wings and Bruins have been the most aggressive, but it’s believed the Sabres have also been pushing hard as well.
