from Michael Felger of CSNNE,
Yesterday was not a good day for general manager Don Sweeney and the Bruins. Loui Eriksson shouldn't be here. He should have been dealt for draft picks and considerations that could have been packaged with the B's existing assets this offseason to address their massive organizational need on defense. There will be no true contention until that is done. It should have been the team's only priority.
The B's will now have less with which to deal this summer. In the meantime, Eriksson, right wing Lee Stempniak and defenseman John-Michael Liles do nothing for the B's other than increase the chances that ownership gets a couple of home playoff dates.
So is that what yesterday was all about? I've been under the impression it's been a new era in Bruins hockey for the past decade or so, where profit margins were no longer the overwhelming driving force. For sure, it was that way for decades under Harry Sinden, where the plan always seemed to be to do just enough to get in and win a couple of rounds, but never overextend.
Was the front office simply spooked by the prospect of missing the postseason for the second consecutive year? Is this all coming from the home office in Buffalo? If so, shame on them. That's no way to build a team.
