NHL Suspends Slava Voynov Pending Formal Investigation Of Domestic Violence

NEW YORK (October 20, 2014) – Los Angeles Kings defenseman Slava Voynov has been suspended indefinitely from all club activities pending a formal investigation by the National Hockey League of an arrest this morning on charges of domestic violence.

The suspension was imposed under Section 18-A.5 of the Collective Bargaining Agreement, which provides that, during the pendency of a criminal investigation, “The League may suspend the Player pending the League’s formal review and disposition of the matter where the failure to suspend the Player during this period would create a substantial risk of material harm to the legitimate interests and/or reputation of the League.”

Voynov, who will continue to be paid during the pendency of the investigation, was arrested for California Penal Code section 273.5, Domestic Violence.

How big of a clown do you have to be, Rodger Goodall, to make Gary Bettman look good?

Information hard to come by, this from the LA Times,

Sgt. Paul Ribitzki of the Redondo Beach Police Department confirmed the arrest and said the incident

occurred on Sunday night. Voynov’s bail amount was $50,000.

Welp. I have a feeling that Voynov played his last game for the Kings yesterday. Hope I’m wrong and this is all some sort of misunderstanding, but as good as he is, if he’s on the wrong side on this matter, he’s done here.

Will it all blow over like the Varlamov deal?  Hard to know quite yet what actually happened in this case.

Gary. Ass. looks good because his minions had the foresight to cram ยง 18-A.5 down the players throats. The NFLPA would never accept such a thing. NFL contracts are not guaranteed so even if an NFL player won his criminal case he could/would lose his job and contract if his replacement played well in his absence;
