OVECHKIN, BACKSTROM AND KUZNETSOV HIT 10-POINT MARK IN CAPITALS WIN
Alex Ovechkin (1-1—2), Nicklas Backstrom (1-3—4) and Evgeny Kuznetsov (0-2—2) each hit the 10-point mark on Friday to help the Capitals hand the Devils their first loss of the season and improve to 3-1-1.
* The Capitals became the 10th team in NHL history to have three or more players each record at least 10 points through the first five games of a season (Ovechkin: 9-1—10, Backstrom: 2-8—10 and Kuznetsov: 0-10—10) and first since the Sharks in 2012-13 (Patrick Marleau: 9-4—13, Joe Thornton: 3-10—13 and Joe Pavelski: 2-8—10).
* Elias notes that Ovechkin became the fourth player in the NHL’s expansion era (since 1967-68) to score nine goals through his team’s first five games of a season and first since Marleau in 2012-13.
ANDERSON CLIMBS ALL-TIME SHUTOUTS LIST BY U.S.-BORN GOALTENDERS
Craig Anderson turned aside all 25 shots he faced to backstop the Senators to a 6-0 victory. Elias notes that Anderson (Park Ridge, Ill.) earned his 39th career shutout to pass Tom Barrasso (38) and move into a tie withRyan Miller for fourth on the NHL’s all-time list by an American-born goaltender.
OTHER TEAMS CONTINUE STRONG STARTS
The Red Wings, Avalanche and Blue Jackets each secured victories on Friday to continue their strong starts to the 2017-18 season:
* Down 3-2 through 40 minutes, the Red Wings scored four unanswered goals in the third period to hand theGolden Knights their first loss of the season and improve to 4-1-0.
* Tyson Barrie scored the go-ahead goal with 5:39 remaining in regulation to power the Avalanche to a 4-1-0 record.
* Artemi Panarin scored the game winner – his first goal in a Columbus uniform – to help the Blue Jacketsimprove to 3-1-0.
NEAL EXTENDS SEASON-OPENING GOAL STREAK
Golden Knights forward James Neal (1-0—1) has scored at least one goal in all four of Vegas’ games this season (6-0—6).
* Elias notes that he became the first player in the NHL’s expansion era (since 1967-68) to score in each of his team’s first four games of its inaugural campaign.
* Elias adds that he became the second player in the expansion era to score six total goals through his team’s first four games of its inaugural campaign, joining Chris Kontos (6-0—6 in 1992-93 w/ TBL).

LIGHTNING TO CELEBRATE INAUGURAL TEAM
The Lightning will honor the franchise’s inaugural team on Saturday prior to their game against the Blues at AMALIE Arena. Tampa Bay will wear special jerseys during the pre-game warmup and nearly 20 members of the original 1992-93 team will be on hand for a pre-game ceremony including General Manager Phil Esposito, Head Coach Terry Crisp, Brian Bradley, Roman Hamrlik, Chris Kontos and Rob Zamuner.
