New Rochelle, N.Y., native Kevin Shattenkirk scored the tiebreaking goal early in the third period to power the Blues over the Rangers in his first career visit to Madison Square Garden. St. Louis improved to 7-0-1, including three consecutive victories, in its past eight trips to MSG dating to Oct. 12, 1998, the longest such point streak in franchise history and longest active streak among NHL teams.

* Four of Shattenkirk’s eight goals this season have been game-winners (49 GP). That matches his career total prior to 2013-14 (201 GP).

* According to the Elias Sports Bureau, Shattenkirk is the fourth defenseman in Blues history to record four or more game-winning goals in a single season, joining Brian Benning (five in 1987-88), Al MacInnis (seven in 1999-00 and four in 2001-02) and Alex Pietrangelo (six in 2011-12).

* Alexander Steen scored his 26th goal of the season, adding to his career high (39 GP). His previous best of 24 was set in 68 games during the 2009-10 season.

* Jaroslav Halak made 34 saves to improve to 10-3-1 on the road this season. He is the first Blues goaltender to post 10 or more road wins in three different seasons since Mike Liut from 1979-81. Halak previously went 10-9-5 on the road in 2011-12 and 10-11-2 as a visitor in 2010-11.

PENGUINS EDGE ISLANDERS IN HIGH-SCORING AFFAIR
Sidney Crosby and Chris Kunitz each posted 1-2—3 to help the Penguins overcome an early two-goal deficit en route to their seventh victory in their past nine games (7-1-1).

* Crosby leads the League with nine games of three or more points this season. He has 90 such performances in his NHL career (521 GP).

* Crosby now has 25-58—83 in 43 regular-season games versus the Islanders, his most assists and points against any NHL club.

BENN SHINES FOR STARS
Jamie Benn posted 1-3—4, including the 100th goal of his NHL career, to help the Stars end the Maple Leafs’ six-game winning streak. Benn leads the team with 27 assists this season and ranks second in both goals (18) and points (45).

* Valeri Nichushkin compiled 2-1—3 for his first career multi-goal game. According to the Elias Sports Bureau, he is the fourth player in Stars/North Stars history to record a multi-goal game at age 18, joining Brian Bellows (four in 1982-83), Brian Lawton (one in 1983-84) and Dave Archibald (two in 1987-88).

* Tyler Seguin collected two assists for his team-leading 13th multi-point game of the season. He also paces the Stars in goals (21) and points (47).

* Kari Lehtonen made 24 saves to record the 200th win of his NHL career. He also picked up his third assist of the season and now has 20 in his career.

HOT HANDS
* Sharks forward Joe Pavelski recorded the lone goal to extend his scoring streak to four games (7-1—8), including the game-winner in each of the past three. Pavelski has 19 goals in his last 21 games and ranks second in the NHL with 28 goals in 51 contests this season.

* Rangers forward Rick Nash potted the team’s lone goal to stretch his scoring streak to four games (6-0—6). He has registered 10 goals in his last 10 outings and leads the team with 17 goals in 36 games this season.

* Hurricanes forward Alexander Semin tallied twice to push his scoring streak to four games (6-0—6), his longest such run since Oct. 30-Nov. 7, 2010 (4-3—7). He had six total goals in his first 34 games of the season.
