PANTHERS EDGE BRUINS TO INCH CLOSER IN WILD CARD RACE . . .
Roberto Luongo made 26 saves – and denied all three attempts he faced in the shootout – to backstop the Panthers to their fifth victory in their past seven outings and first win over the Bruins since March 15, 2012, snapping a 0-8-1 skid.

* At 33-25-14 (80 points), the Panthers moved within four points of the Bruins (36-24-12, 84 points) for the final Wild Card spot in the Eastern Conference. Boston, however, owns the ROW tiebreaker (BOS: 33, FLA: 25). These Atlantic Division rivals face off two more times this season, on March 31 at BOS and April 9 at FLA.

* Luongo picked up his third consecutive personal win and improved to 25-16-11 overall (2.32 GAA, .923 SV%, 2 SO). He leads the NHL with seven shootout victories this season (7-8), while his 41 such career wins rank fourth among active goaltenders.

* Brandon Pirri saw his four-game goal streak come to an end, but potted the lone marker in the shootout. He is 5-for-11 (45.5%) all-time in tiebreakers, with three game-deciding goals.

* Jimmy Hayes snapped a 14-game drought with his first goal since Feb. 17 at TOR. He ranks second on the team with 18 goals this season, behind only Nick Bjugstad(24).

* The Panthers improved to 4-1-0 in their past five home games. Overall, they are 18-11-7 (43 points) this season at BB&T Center.

. . . TURRIS, SENATORS WIN BATTLE OF ONTARIO TO NARROW PLAYOFF GAP
Kyle Turris scored twice, including the tiebreaking goal in the final minute of the second period, to lift the Senators to their sixth consecutive victory and a 14-1-1 mark in their past 16 games dating to Feb. 18.

* At 36-24-11 (83 points), the Senators moved within one point of the Bruins (36-24-12, 84 points) for the final Wild Card spot in the Eastern Conference. Ottawa holds one game in hand and won the season series (OTT: 3-2-0, BOS: 2-1-2), but Boston owns the ROW tiebreaker (BOS: 33, OTT: 31).

* Per Elias, the Senators have recorded at least one point in 15-of-16 games for the first time since Feb. 22 – March 24, 2007 (10-1-5). They also have won 14-of-16 games for the first time since Jan. 14 – Feb. 14, 2010 (14-2-0).

* Turris recorded his 12th career multi-goal game and second in a row, following 2-1—3on Thursday vs. BOS. It marks the first time in his career that Turris has posted consecutive multi-goal performances.

* Turris also reached the 20-goal milestone for the second straight season after notching a career-high 26 goals in 2013-14. He ranks second on the Senators with 21-31—52 overall, six points shy of his career high established last season (26-32—58).

* Andrew Hammond recorded 22 saves to improve to 13-0-1 since making his first NHL start on Feb. 18. Elias says he is the fourth goaltender in League history to earn at least one point in each of his first 14 NHL starts (of a single season). The others: Montreal’s Bill Durnan (11-0-3; Oct. 30 – Dec. 4, 1943), Boston’s Ross Brooks (11-0-3; Oct. 25, 1972 – March 25, 1973) and Pittsburgh’s Patrick Lalime (13-0-1; Dec. 7, 1996 – Jan. 21, 1997).

* Mike Hoffman scored his 25th goal of the season to extend his lead among rookies. Only Alexei Yashin (30 in 1993-94) and Daniel Alfredsson (26 in 1995-96) have registered more goals for the Senators as a rookie.

* Erik Karlsson added 1-1—2; he leads all defensemen with 19-39—58 this season, while his 19 goals are tied for the most among blueliners (w/ Oliver Ekman-Larsson).

* Marc Methot (0-2—2) also posted multiple points, while Curtis Lazar supplied the club’s other goal.

PRICE (AGAIN) LIFTS CANADIENS INTO FIRST WITH PERFECT PERFORMANCE
Carey Price stopped all 29 shots he faced to record his second consecutive shutout (also Thursday vs. CAR: 31 SV) and lead the Canadiens to third straight victory.

* At 46-20-7 (99 points), the Canadiens leapfrogged the idle Ducks (46-20-7, 99 points) to move back into first place in the NHL standings, where the top eight teams are separated by seven points. Though Montreal and Anaheim have identical records, the Canadiens own the ROW tiebreaker (MTL: 40, ANA: 38).

* Price posted shutouts in consecutive team games for the second time in his career, a feat he first accomplished earlier this season (Jan. 29 at NYR: 24 SV and Jan. 31 vs. WSH: 36 SV).

* Price established a career high and also moved into a share of the League lead (w/Marc-Andre Fleury) with his ninth shutout of the season. Elias says Price is the first Canadiens goaltender to register at least nine shutouts in one season since 1976-77, when Ken Dryden had 10.

* Price also tied Bill Durnan for fourth place on the franchise’s all-time shutouts list with his 34th such performance. Only George Hainsworth (75), Jacques Plante (58) and Dryden (46) have more in Canadiens history.

* Price reached another milestone with his League-leading and career-high 40th victory of the season. His 40 wins are two shy of the single-season franchise record, shared by Dryden (1975-76) and Plante (1955-56 and 1961-62).

* Price also paces the NHL with a 1.86 goals-against average and .938 save percentage in 59 appearances this season (40-15-4). That includes a 23-7-3 record at Bell Centre, where he has a 1.80 goals-against average, .939 save percentage and five shutouts.

* Tomas Plekanec collected 1-1—2, including his fifth game-winning goal of the season, for his third multi-point performance in his past four outings (2-4—6). Brendan Gallagher added an empty-net tally.

* The Canadiens snapped a four-game losing streak against the Sharks with their first head-to-head victory since Dec. 4, 2010 (0-3-1). They also scored their first goal against San Jose since Dec. 1, 2011, ending a 215:00 drought. Each of the last four meetings between the teams has featured a shutout.

TOP METROPOLITAN CLUBS ALL PICK UP WINS

They also picked up points for the 18th time in their last 20 outings overall (15-2-3).

* Halak extended his career high and franchise record with his 35th win of the season (2.41 GAA, .913 SV%, 5 SO). Only Chico Resch has posted more shutouts for the Islanders in one season (7 in 1975-76).

* Travis Hamonic and Ryan Strome both collected 1-1—2. Strome notched his third career game-winning goal; he shares second on the team (w/ Kyle Okposo) with 15-30—45 this season.

* The Islanders improved to 20-5-1 this season against Metropolitan Division opponents, including a 13-3-1 mark in their last 17 intradivision contests.

* Winnik scored his first goal in a Penguins uniform (11 GP) and first game-winning marker since April 7, 2014 at VAN (w/ ANA).
