OVECHKIN’S FOUR POINTS LIFT CAPITALS OVER DUCKS
Alex Ovechkin posted 2-2—4, including his 10th multi-goal game of the season, to power the Capitals to their fifth victory in their past seven outings.

* At 30-17-10 (70 points), the Capitals moved within one point of the idle Rangers (33-16-5, 71 points) for third place in the Metropolitan Division. New York, however, holds three games in hand and owns the ROW tiebreaker (NYR: 31, WSH: 28).

* With his performance, Ovechkin (36) leapfrogged Rick Nash (35) for the League lead in goals. Ovechkin also recorded his 16th power-play goal, tying Joe Pavelski for first in the NHL.

* Per Elias, Ovechkin’s 10 multi-goal games lead the NHL this season; no other player has more than seven such performances.

* Ovechkin has notched 20-9—29 in his past 22 games dating to Dec. 29, including 14-6—20 in his last 14 outings. His 57 points this season rank sixth in the League.

* Ovechkin registered his 19th career game of at least four points and second of the season (also Nov. 2 vs. ARI: 1-3—4). He has 9-10—19 in 11 career games vs. ANA, including 8-6—14 in five appearances at Honda Center.

* Andre Burakovsky (2-0—2) added his first career multi-goal performance. Nicklas Backstrom posted 0-2—2 to take over the League lead in assists (43), one ahead of Jakub Voracek (42).

* The Capitals improved to 7-1-1 in their last nine meetings with the Ducks dating to Nov. 19, 2008. They also have won five straight visits to Honda Center dating to Jan. 13, 2006.

STAMKOS, LIGHTNING END DROUGHT IN SAN JOSE
Steven Stamkos recorded 1-1—2, including his 30th goal of the season, to lead the Lightning to their first win at SAP Center since March 24, 2003, snapping a five-game slide in San Jose.

* At 35-17-6 (76 points), the Lightning tied the idle Canadiens (36-15-4, 76 points) – in terms of points – for the top spot in the Atlantic Division and Eastern Conference. Montreal holds three games in hand, but Tampa Bay owns the ROW tiebreaker (TBL: 33, MTL: 30).

* Stamkos reached the 30-goal milestone for the fourth time in his career and first time since 2011-12, when he led the NHL with a career-high 60 markers. His 30 goals rank fourth in the League this season, while his 53 points share 13th.

* Stamkos has 8-4—12 in eight career games vs. SJS, including 3-2—5 in four visits to SAP Center.

* Ryan Callahan (1-1—2) and Valtteri Filppula (0-2—2) also posted multi-point games for Tampa Bay. Since his acquisition in March 2014, the Lightning are 18-2-0 when Callahan finds the back of the net.

* Ondrej Palat scored 10 seconds into the third period for the eventual game-winning goal. Via Elias, it marked the third-fastest goal to begin one period in Lightning history – Mikael Andersson (Jan. 16, 1994 at WPG; OT) and Ruslan Fedotenko (March 20, 2006 at FLA; 2nd period) share the club record with goals nine seconds after the start of a period.

* Ben Bishop made 33 saves, including 14 in the middle frame, to earn his 28th win of the season – fifth in the NHL.

CENTRAL POWERS PREVAIL IN SHOOTOUTS
Both the Blues and Blackhawks – the No. 2 and No. 3 teams in the Central Division, respectively – picked up shootout wins to inch closer to the No. 1 Predators:

* Brian Elliott made 40 saves through overtime and then denied another four attempts in the tiebreaker to lead the Blues to their third consecutive victory overall and seventh win in their past eight road games. Elliott improved to 18-7-2 this season; he ranks third in the League with a 2.10 goals-against average and fifth with a .925 save percentage.

* Making his first career shootout attempt, Jori Lehtera provided the decisive marker in the fifth round of the tiebreaker. Jaden Schwartz registered the club’s lone tally in regulation, reaching the 20-goal milestone for the second time in his career (also 2013-14: 25 G).

* The Blues improved to 7-2 in shootouts this season; their seven such wins are tied for first in the NHL (w/ ANA, CHI, COL and NYI). They also stretched their winning streak against the Panthers to six games dating to Feb. 8, 2011.

ISLANDERS FACE RANGERS IN METROPOLITAN SHOWDOWN . . .
Crucial points in the Metropolitan Division are on the line when the Islanders play host to the Rangers at Nassau Coliseum in the fourth edition of the Battle of New York. The Islanders (37-18-1), who lead the division with 75 points, are 3-0-0 this season against the Rangers (33-16-5), who sit third with 71 points. The Rangers, however, hold two games in hand and own the ROW tiebreaker (NYR: 31, NYI: 30). These clubs will face off one more time in 2014-15 – on March 10, also at Nassau Coliseum. Overall, the Islanders have won four straight and are 18-2-0 versus Metropolitan Division opponents this season, including 11 consecutive wins. The Rangers, meanwhile, are riding a three-game winning streak and boast a 14-4-1 intradivision record in 2014-15.

. . . CANADIENS BATTLE RED WINGS IN KEY ATLANTIC MATCHUP
Two of the top clubs in the Atlantic Division also face off when the Canadiens visit the Red Wings at Joe Louis Arena. Montreal (36-15-4), who leads the division and Eastern Conference with 76 points, owns a 2-0-0 record this season against Detroit (31-13-10), who sits third in the Atlantic with 72 points. The Red Wings hold one game in hand, but the Canadiens own the ROW tiebreaker (MTL: 30, DET: 29). These teams also will meet one more time in 2014-15 – on April 9 at Bell Centre. Overall, the Canadiens enter the contest on a five-game point streak (4-0-1), while the Red Wings are 3-1-1 in their last five but are coming off consecutive losses.

WILD TRY TO STAY HOT, CLOSE IN ON PLAYOFF SPOT
Minnesota, the first club on the outside of the playoff picture in the Western Conference, will try to close in on a Wild Card spot when it faces Vancouver at Rogers Arena. The Wild are riding a 10-game point streak (8-0-2), matching a franchise record last achieved March 8-27, 2007 (9-0-1). Minnesota (28-20-7, 63 points), however, remains two points behind Calgary (31-22-3, 65 points) for the final Wild Card berth in the West. The Wild do hold one game in hand, but the Flames own the ROW tiebreaker (CGY: 28, MIN: 26). At 31-21-3 (65 points), Vancouver sits third in the Pacific Division – tied with Calgary in terms of points, but ahead in the division due to one fewer game played. This marks the third and final meeting between these teams in 2014-15, all this month – the Wild are 2-0-0, picking up wins Feb. 1 at VAN (4-2) and Feb. 9 at MIN (5-3).
