TOP INDIVIDUAL PERFORMANCES

* Rangers forward Rick Nash found the back of the net in each of the team’s first four games (6-1—7), becoming the first player in franchise history to do so. He also became first Rangers player to register six goals in the team’s first four games of a season since 1976-77, when Don Murdoch posted eight over their opening four outings.

* Ducks forward Corey Perry recorded hat tricks Oct. 9 at PIT and Oct. 22 vs. BUF, becoming the sixth player in the past 29 years to register multiple hat tricks in his team’s first seven games of a season. He also scored his eighth goal in his seventh game of the season, becoming the fastest player in franchise history to reach that mark.

* Islanders forward John Tavares registered four consecutive multi-point games to open the season, becoming the second player in franchise history to achieve that feat (Mike Bossy: 1984-85, 7 straight such games).

* Penguins captain Sidney Crosby collected his 500th NHL assist Oct. 18 vs. NYI, becoming the sixth-fastest player in NHL history to reach the milestone (554 GP). The only players to reach the mark faster: Wayne Gretzky (352 GP), Mario Lemieux (433 GP), Peter Stastny (507 GP), Bobby Orr (522 GP) and Peter Forsberg (551 GP).

* Playing in his 501st career game Oct. 22 at EDM, Capitals forward Nicklas Backstrom posted an assist to record his 500th NHL point. Only five active players reached the milestone faster: Sidney Crosby (369 GP), Alex Ovechkin (373 GP), Evgeni Malkin (413 GP), Jaromir Jagr (419 GP) and Dany Heatley (456 GP). Jason Spezza also notched his 500th point in the same number of games as Backstrom (501 GP).

* Wild goaltender Darcy Kuemper opened the season with a 163:46 shutout streak, the longest individual single-season shutout streak in franchise history, and at age 24 became the youngest goaltender in NHL history to post shutouts in each of his team’s first two games of a season. He then earned his third shutout of 2014-15 in his fourth start, becoming just the second goaltender since 1943-44 to pick up three shutouts in his first four appearances of one season (Pascal Leclaire: 2007-08).

* Ducks goaltender Frederik Andersen recorded his 26th career victory Oct. 22 vs. BUF, becoming the first goaltender in NHL history to win 26 of his first 31 decisions.

* Hurricanes forward Brody Sutter made his NHL debut Oct. 16, becoming the ninth member of the Sutter family to play in the NHL.

TEAM NOTES

* The Ducks began the season with a 7-1-0 record, matching franchise marks for wins (7; 2013-14) and points (14; 2006-07 and 2013-14) to start a season.

* The Canadiens also went 7-1-0 in their opening eight contests, their best start by wins since 1961-62 (7-0-1).

DUCKS RECLAIM TOP SPOT
Corey Perry scored his League-leading 10th goal of the season and assisted on Nate Thompson’s overtime winner to lift the Ducks to a 2-1 win over the Stars. Dallas forward Anotine Roussel forced the extra period with his tying goal at 14:33 of the third period; the last meeting between the clubs was Game 6 in the First Round of the 2014 Stanley Cup Playoffs when the Ducks overcame a two-goal deficit in the final minutes of regulation before clinching the series in overtime.

* Thompson’s goal was the fifth winning tally of his career and third in overtime (also Jan. 1, 2010 vs. NYR and Feb. 1, 2014 vs. MTL, both while with TBL). It also was his first goal in a Ducks uniform.

* With the win the Ducks reclaimed the top spot in the NHL with 18 points. At 9-3-0, the Ducks have matched their best 12-game start by wins in franchise history, set most recently last year when the club also began 9-3-0 (via Elias Sports Bureau).
