The Canadiens and Maple Leafs drop the puck on the 2014-15 regular season in the debut of Scotiabank Wednesday Night Hockey on Sportsnet. These Original Six rivals are facing off in their season openers for the sixth consecutive time, with Toronto winning each of the last four contests, including a 4-3 victory last year. The Kings will raise their second championship banner in the past three seasons when they play host to the rival Sharks, who they ousted in the First Round of the 2014 Stanley Cup Playoffs after becoming the fourth team in NHL history overcome a 3-0 series deficit. The Kings and Sharks have met 41 times (regular season and playoffs) since the start of the 2010-11 season, the most of any two clubs in that span. That total includes three postseason meetings, highlighted by seven-game series in each of the last two playoff years. Wednesday’s tilt marks the first of five matchups between the clubs in 2014-15, including the 2015 Coors Light NHL Stadium Series at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, Calif., on Feb. 21. The Kings are 8-0-1 in their last nine regular-season meetings with the Sharks at STAPLES Center dating to 2010-11.
