THREE HARD LAPS

* Jordan Eberle scored in double overtime to help the Islanders keep their Stanley Cup aspirations alive and force a Game 6 in the Eastern Conference Final.

* Victor Hedman became the seventh different defenseman in NHL history to score eight or more goals in a single postseason and first since Brian Leetch in 1994 (11-23—34 in 23 GP).

* Tuesday’s contest featured a head-to-head showdown of the two best overtime winning percentages in NHL postseason history. New York improved to 36-20 (.643) and Tampa Bay dropped to 20-9 (.690).

EBERLE SCORES IN DOUBLE OT AS ISLANDERS FORCE GAME 6
With the Islanders and Lightning tied 1-1 through 80 minutes of play, Jordan Eberle took advantage of a 2-on-1 opportunity with Anders Lee at 12:30 of double overtime to help New York stave off elimination and force a Game 6 in the Eastern Conference Final.

* The Islanders became the second team in the 2020 postseason to avoid elimination with a multi-overtime win, joining the Flyers who also accomplished the feat in Game 6 of the Second Round against New York. Additionally, the 2020 Stanley Cup Playoffs are just the seventh postseason in NHL history to see multiple teams accomplish the feat: 2019 (3x), 2017 (2x), 2004 (3x), 1994 (3x), 1968 (2x), 1938 (2x).

* Eberle became the eighth player in Islanders history to score an overtime goal that helped his team avoid elimination and just the second to do so in a contest that featured multiple overtimes. The other: Pat LaFontaine (Game 7 of 1987 DSF).

* The all-time series record of teams that faced a 3-1 series deficit in the round that immediately preceded the Stanley Cup Final (best-of-seven only) is 1-68. With their win Tuesday, the Islanders took another step closer in joining the Lou Lamoriello-led 2000 Devils as just the second team to overcome that series deficit to advance to the Stanley Cup Final.

* Tuesday’s contest featured a head-to-head showdown of the two best overtime winning percentages in NHL postseason history. New York improved to 36-20 (.643), while Tampa Bay dropped to 20-9 (.690).

The 2019-20 Norris Trophy finalist became the seventh different defenseman in NHL history to score eight or more goals in a single postseason and first since Brian Leetch in 1994 (11-23—34 in 23 GP).
