McDAVID SHINES IN STAR SHOWDOWN WITH CAREER-HIGH SIX POINTS . . .
Connor McDavid (3-3—6) shined with a career-high six points and his sixth NHL hat trick, including a four-point first period, as the Oilers bested Nathan MacKinnon and the Avalanche at Rogers Place. The Oilers captain is just the seventh active NHL player to collect at least six points in a game.

* McDavid became the fifth player in franchise history to register at least six career hat tricks.

* After also netting a three-goal performance to record his 400th NHL point Sunday, McDavid became the fourth Oilers player to score two hat tricks in a three-game span. The others: Wayne Gretzky (4x overall; twice in both 1981-82 and 1983-84), Glenn Anderson (1983-84 and 1987-88) and Jari Kurri (1983-84). Three of Gretzky’s four instances came in back-to-back contests.

* McDavid factored on all four of the Oilers first-period goals (2-2—2) to match the franchise record for most points in an opening frame – a feat accomplished by Gretzky (6x) and Jason Arnott (March 23, 1996). It marked the eighth time McDavid has posted three or more points in a period and first with four.

* Additionally, he also became the first Oilers player with four or more points in any period since Sam Gagner tallied 3-2—5 in the third period on Feb. 2, 2012 - a night that saw him match franchise records for both points in any period and in a game (4-4—8).

. . . WHILE DRAISAITL REACHES 40-POINT MARK WITH FIVE-ASSIST OUTING
Leon Draisaitl collected a career-high five assists to boost his 2019-20 totals to 15-26—41 (21 GP) as the Oilers duo became the second set of teammates to each record five points in a game this season.

* Draisaitl reached the 40-point mark in 21 games, following a season where Nikita Kucherov reached the benchmark in his 28th contest - which featured the highest single-season point total by an NHL player in 23 years.

* The League’s leading scorer became the 20th different player in NHL history, and seventh different in the last 30 years, to record 41 or more points through his team's first 21 games of a season (Wayne Gretzky accounts for 10 of the 36 total instances).

* Mario Lemieux (20 GP in 2002-03 w/ PIT) is the only other player in the last 23 years to hit the 40-point mark in 21 or fewer games.

LIGHTNING STRIKE NINE TIMES IN FIRST GAME SINCE GLOBAL SERIES
In their first game back from the 2019 NHL Global Series in Stockholm, Sweden, the Lightning erupted for four goals in each of the first and second periods to become the second team to score nine goals in a game this season.

* The Lightning’s four tallies in the first 6:42 of Thursday’s contest marked the fastest four goals to begin a game in franchise history. Additionally, only five teams in the last 25 years have accomplished the feat in that span or faster.

* Tampa Bay became the 79th team in NHL history to score at least four goals in each of their first two periods of a regular-season game and just the third in the last decade. The others: NYI (Feb. 11, 2011) and STL (Feb. 19, 2011), who accomplished the feat eight days apart.

* Thursday marked the second time the Lightning have featured five players each record at least three points in a game (Nikita Kucherov: 1-3—4; Steven Stamkos: 1-2—3; Victor Hedman: 0-3—3; Yanni Gourde: 1-2—3; and Alex Killorn: 2-1—3). The other: Oct. 30, 2018 vs. NJD.

* Tampa Bay is the second team to feature five such players in a game in 2019-20, after Colorado achieved the feat seven days ago against the Predators on Nov. 7. The last team with more than five players with at least three points was Edmonton on Nov. 19, 2011 vs. CHI (6).

* Thursday’s contest was the third game this season with 12 or more combined goals (including shootout-deciding goals). The others each featured 13 goals, when Tampa Bay recorded a 7-6 OT win at New Jersey on Oct. 30, while Colorado posted a 9-4 win vs. Nashville on Nov. 7.

HURRICANES WIN 10TH STRAIGHT GAME OVER SABRES

Andrei Svechnikov (1-2—3) recorded his first three-point outing of the season and Dougie Hamilton (1-1—2) scored in overtime to help the Hurricanes stave off a Sabres multi-goal comeback and earn their 10th consecutive win against the club.

* Svechnikov recorded his ninth multi-point game of the season, after posting just seven in his rookie campaign, to boost his 2019-20 totals to 8-13—21. The 19-year-old trails only Leon Draisaitl (12) and John Carlson (10) for most multi-point games in 2019-20.

* Hamilton’s two-point performance propelled the Hurricanes defenseman to the 20-point mark (9-12—21 in 19 GP). He required the fewest games by a defenseman in Hurricanes/Whalers history to record his 20th point of the season, besting the previous mark set by Hartford’s Mark Howe in 1980-81 (6-15—21 in 20 GP).

* Carolina extended its win streak against Buffalo to 10 games dating to Dec. 17, 2016. Already the franchise’s longest win streak against one opponent, the Hurricanes hold one of five active win streaks of 10 or more games against one team.

* Jordan Staal scored his 100th goal with the Hurricanes to join his brother Eric (322-453—775 in 909 GP) in doing so with Carolina. The duo became the ninth set of brothers in NHL history to tally 100 or more goals with the same franchise.

AROUND THE RINKS

* Joe Pavelski (0-2—2) notched his second multi-point game in as many days (2-0—2 vs. CGY on Nov. 13) to help the Stars improve to 9-1-1 in their last 11 games. Pavelski, who signed with Dallas on July 1 after spending 13 seasons with the Sharks, has led his current club in scoring over the course of their 11-game run (4-6—10).

* Patrik Laine collected three assists to record the 200th point of his NHL career (114-88—202). Among players to debut with the Jets/Thrashers franchise, Laine (255 GP) required the second-fewest games to reach the milestone – behind only Ilya Kovalchuk (106-94—200 in 222 GP w/ ATL).

* Artemi Panarin (0-2—2) extended his point streak to a career-high 10 games (4-11—15), posting multiple points in five of those outings. He became the seventh Rangers player in the last 25 years to record a double-digit point streak in his first season with the franchise. The last player with a longer such run was Scott Gomez in 2007-08 (13 GP).

MAPLE LEAFS HOST BRUINS IN ANNUAL HALL OF FAME GAME

The six newest members of the Hockey Hall of Fame are scheduled to be in attendance when the Maple Leafs host the Bruins in the annual Hockey Hall of Fame Game at Scotiabank Arena in Toronto.

* The Class of 2019, which includes builders Jim Rutherford and Jerry York alongside player inductees Guy Carbonneau, Vaclav Nedomansky, Hayley Wickenheiser and Sergei Zubov, will be formally inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in a ceremony on Monday, Nov. 18.

* Additionally, Media Honorees Frank Brown (Elmer Ferguson Memorial Award) and Jim Hughson (Foster Hewitt Memorial Award) will receive their awards at the Hockey Hall of Fame NHL Media Awards Luncheon in Toronto on Monday.

CARLSON, CAPITALS WELCOME CANADIENS TO CAPITAL ONE ARENA

John Carlson (8-22—30) and the Capitals welcome the Canadiens to Capital One Arena as they aim to extend their point streak to 14 games.

* Carlson factored on Washington’s lone goal on Wednesday to become the fifth player this season, and first Capitals skater, to reach the 30-point mark. Carlson joined an elite list in the process, recording the eighth instance of defenseman in NHL history requiring 20 or fewer games to reach 30 points in a season.
