DEVILS ERUPT FOR SEASON-HIGH EIGHT GOALS

Blake Coleman (2-1—3) and Travis Zajac (1-2—3) paced a group of six New Jersey skaters each with multiple points as the Devils erupted for a season-high eight goals to defeat the Blackhawks and improve to 4-1-0 in their last five home games.

* Fifty-two goals were scored across six games on Monday for an average of almost nine per contest, highlighted by New Jersey’s eight-goal outburst and seven-goal outings from Philadelphia and Edmonton. It marked the first six-game day to feature 52 or more combined goals since March 28, 1995 (52).

HAT TRICKS POWER TEAMS TO VICTORY

Avalanche forward Carl Soderberg (3-0—3) and Flyers forward James van Riemsdyk (3-0—3) each scored hat tricks to power their respective teams to victory:

* Soderberg scored the first hat trick of his NHL career to help the Avalanche snap a three-game slide (0-3-0). He became the fourth player inAvalanche/Nordiques franchise history to score a hat trick against the Maple Leafs, joining Miroslav Frycer on Oct. 17, 1981 (3-0—3), Michel Goulet on Oct. 26, 1982 (3-1—4) and Owen Nolan on Nov. 26, 1992 (3-1—4).

* Soderberg (33 years, 94 days) also became the oldest NHL player to score a hat trick against the Maple Leafs since Martin St. Louis (37 years, 310 days) on April 24, 2013 (3-0—3 w/ TBL). The oldest player to ever score three or more goals in a game versus Toronto was Joe Nieuwendyk(39 years, 213 days) on April 11, 2006 (3-1—4 w/ FLA).

* van Riemsdyk, who began his second stint with Philadelphia after being acquired by the club on July 1, scored his second career hat trick in aFlyers uniform (also 3-0—3 on March 26, 2011 at NYI).

* The seven years and 294 days between regular-season hat tricks was the longest such gap in franchise history, eclipsing the previous one of six years and 260 days by Bobby Clarke (March 28, 1974 – Dec. 13, 1980). The longest gap between regular-season hat tricks in NHL history is 11 years and 345 days, which is owned by Dit Clapper (March 9, 1933 – Feb. 17, 1945).

Flyers forward Nolan Patrick (2-2—4) established a single-game career high with four points. Patrick (20 years, 117 days) became the fifth-youngest player in franchise history to record four or more points in a regular-season game, trailing only Eric Lindros (19 years, 261 days) on Nov. 15, 1992 (3-1—4 vs. OTT), Tom Bladon (20 years, 42 days) on Feb. 9, 1973 (0-4—4 at VAN), Mike Ricci (20 years, 111 days) on Feb. 15, 1992 (1-4—5 vs. EDM) and Bill Barber (20 years, 116 days) on Nov. 4, 1972 (1-3—4 vs. BUF).

PERRON EXTENDS POINT STREAK IN WIN

David Perron scored to extend his point streak to 11 games (5-9—14) and help the Blues improve to 4-1-0 in their last five contests, including three consecutive wins. Perron, who owns the longest active point streak in the NHL, became the first Blues player to record at least one point in 11 or more consecutive team games since Alexander Steen from Oct. 17 – Nov. 16, 2013 (13-5—18 in 13 GP).

OVECHKIN CLIMBS ALL-TIME GOALS, POWER-PLAY GOALS LISTS

Capitals captain Alex Ovechkin scored the 640th goal and 238th power-play goal of his NHL career.

* Ovechkin leads the League with 33 goals this season (33-18—51 in 45 GP), three more than Sabres forward Jeff Skinner (30-14—44 in 46 GP).

37-YEAR-OLD WILLIAMS LOOKS TO EXTEND GOAL STREAK TO SIX GAMES

Justin Williams looks to extend his goal streak to six games when the Hurricanes (22-18-5, 49 points) visit the Rangers (18-20-7, 43 points) at Madison Square Garden. He can become the third player in NHL history to record a goal streak of at least six games at 37 years of age or older, in which he would join Detroit’s Brett Hull from Nov. 26 – Dec. 8, 2003 (7-4—11 in 7 GP) and Boston’s Johnny Bucyk from Dec. 10-19, 1974 (7-3—10 in 6 GP).

SHARKS AIM TO PUSH WIN STREAK TO SEVEN GAMES

The Sharks (27-13-7, 61 points) aim to push their win streak to seven games when they host the Penguins (25-14-6, 56 points) at SAP Center. San Jose can earn wins in seven or more consecutive games for the 12th time in franchise history and first since March 12-26, 2018 (8-0-0).

* Erik Karlsson (3-38—41 in 45 GP) can become the second defenseman to reach the 40-assist mark this season, in which he would join teammateBrent Burns (9-43—52 in 47 GP). It would mark the fourth time in NHL history where the first two defensemen with 40 assists in a season played on the same team. The other instances: Bobby Orr and Carol Vadnais in 1974-75 (w/ BOS), Denis Potvin and Jean Potvin in 1975-76 (w/ NYI) and D. Potvin and Stefan Persson in 1978-79 (w/ NYI).
