Matt Dumba Agrees To A Five-Year Deal With The Minnesota Wild

07/21/2018 at 7:19am EDT

from Michael Russo of The Athletic,

As Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman reported in the wee hours of the morning and The Athletic confirmed soon after, the Wild and Dumba will avoid a Monday arbitration date by agreeing to terms on a five-year, $30 million contract. The contract carries a $6 million cap hit and will make the 23-year-old defenseman the Wild’s third-highest paid player next season behind only Zach Parise and Ryan Suter. That would be dependent on restricted free agent Jason Zucker coming in at a lower price following his career-high 33 goals last season.

Last season, Dumba set career-highs in games played (82), goals (14), assists (36), points (50), game-winning goals (four), power-play assists (10), time on ice per game (23:48), shots (176), hits (136) and blocked shots (112).

His point total was the third-best amongst team defensemen all-time. Dumba recorded four points (1-3=4) vs. Dallas on March 29, 2018, setting a franchise record for most points in a game by a defenseman.

He has collected 128 points (44-84=128), a plus-39 rating, 163 PIM, 366 hits and 293 blocked shots in 310 career NHL games during parts of five seasons with Minnesota (2013-18).
