Wasn’t Holland interested in him a couple years ago and he decided to sign with Pens for 1 year.

I wonder why he didn’t click for the Kings? Minus ten, with ten points. Is it the system they employ, or has his skillset dimished that much? He was good for Pittsburgh last year.

I wonder if it would be a good idea for Holland to claim him. He cannot be any worse than Kindl and Ericsson.

They are #1 in the league, and assuming there is more than 1 team interested, Caps are not getting him.

I don’t think he was particularly good for Pittsburgh either, though concussions definitely played a factor in that. I don’t know what happened in LA, but he doesn’t exactly seem to fit the Daryl Sutter mould.

It’d be an interesting thought to see him play for the Wings, given that Holland had tried to sign him previously. He’d certainly be an upgrade over our bottom 3, but again, our depth and cap space make it an issue.

Given his salary, I find it hard to believe someone won’t pick him up.

you’re right. I don’t believe it was anything more than bs kidding around (ie. williams, richards, so now erhoff). probably shouldn’t have posted that crap.

The Caps may have indeed placed a claim for him, but he has until noon tomorrow before anything happens. Lowest in the standings by that time to claim him would get him.

If the salary fits somehow (even temporarily) they should take a flier on him. Even for his struggles the last couple years he is better than most of the Wings options with the puck on his stick, at least while Green and Kronwall are out.

Luke Fox of Sportsnet,

Depending on the seriousness of New York Rangers captain Ryan McDonagh’s concussion, Ehrhoff could a short-term fill-in. The Blueshirts operate the third-worst power play in the league at 15.9 per cent.

The defensively thin Edmonton Oilers, Columbus Blue Jackets, Boston Bruins, and Arizona Coyotes should also consider picking him up. The term and the cost is low-risk.

Sounds like Vancouver might be in the market too now.

He was just bad with the Kings. It really seems like his timing is off/he is one step behind. This caused him to take a lot of penalties. I also do see it as a system and player not fitting. He just isnt able to take the body effectively. At his very best right now, he is the 6th dman on most teams.

pro-rated cap hit: $475,806

He’s 33 and on a 1 year deal: I’d think you’d have to submit a claim for him rather than loose a 3rd round pick around trade deadline for a similar player as “depth.” He’s not the same player as a few years ago, but the term and cost are such it’s a no-loose situation for the team picking him up.

That’s why there will probably be more than a few teams putting a claim in.

He cleared.

And KH makes another mistake…that will cost the Wings something at the trade deadline when he picks up that depth guy.

The Wings could have cleared $475k. They have IR replacement salary and can go over…but they are so worried about bonus carryover penalty from Larkin ($350k) & Marchenko ($125k) adding to the $1.1M from Weiss’ buyout next year on cap that won’t move or shirks if the NHLPA says no to the cap inflater.

Some pending UFA’s on the team need to be moved for assets. This team ceiling is the conference finals at best that’s counting on the goalie to steal the 2nd round series.
The young GM KH with something to prove wasn’t afraid to send good long-tenured Wings for assets (Chiasson, McCrimmon, Primeau being the ones I remember most). They’ve got players paths being blocked by guys that aren’t improving and are aging or will be too $$$$ to sign: Helm and Quincey. Though with KH: I better list Cleary too (KH is likely to give him a 2 year deal for his leadership qualities).

It just infuriates me to know they will trade for a rental just like this at deadline and give up yet another prospect that could be thrown in on a real deal that improves the team in the long-term.
