don’t even f’n joke about this…

seriously. I’m already seething that this labor dispute robbed me of yet more of Datsyuk’s finite career. I may have to move to Russia if he doesn’t come back.

When is this KHL All Star game?  That Kovalchuk quote sounds like they want to play in that and then come back to the NHL after.

To all asking, the only possible avenue for KHL to keep Kovalchuk/Datsyuk (IMO) is to try to prove their NHL deals are voided w/ new CBA.

I don’t see why this would be true. The KHL has a memorandum of understanding with the NHL, but it’s non-binding. Neither league is a member of the IIHF, so that’s not necessarily a viable avenue for complaint, and if they did sanction these players, they might invoke the wrath of the Russian government. Not Medvedev, KHL president. Putin, Russian Warlord ))).

I mean, if the KHL keeps these two, what are the Devils and Red Wings gonna do—sue the teams in a Russian court? Complain to the IIHF to revoke their olympic status? Does that body have the balls for the ramification of siding with one of these two non-members?

I mean, I don’t know anything about Russian law, but it seems to me getting the courts to rule against their President’s pet project is the longest of longshots.

Actually, the KHL is. They paid a fine when Nail Yakupov played a KHL game without having his transfer card properly signed.

Stop speculating.  Assuming this is his real facebook page (the page posts often, I’m inclined to believe it is, but decide for yourself: https://www.facebook.com/pages/Pavel-Datsyuk/367744853307587)

Wonder if Pavel remembers saying this in late October…

Detroit is dying a little without Datsyuk right now, and Datsyuk is dying a little without Detroit. Asked if he missed Detroit, he did not hesitate.

“Yes,” he said. “A lot.”

What about it?

“Hockey,” Datsyuk said. “Fans. Locker room. People. It’s tough a little bit. After over 10 years, you kind of change atmosphere, it’s a little bit different.”

The word is Datsyuk was one of the four players, Kovalchuk, Malkin and Ovechkin, who were offered additional cash to stay in the KHL.

I read an interview with Pavs a few years ago. In it he made it clear that money was not the most important thing to him. It was something he said about cars…..........

What are you driving these days? What do you wish you could drive? What’s the fastest you’ve ever driven?

Don’t touch my dream with your dirty hands.

There are a lot of cars. There is a dream car. But it is not a goal. It is a Maybach. This is my dream. But it is not a goal for me to make enough to buy this car. Let this dream be just that—a dream.

Also for the record, Datsyuk’s agent has already said Pavel will be returning to Detroit when the CBA is signed and players are called back.

It’s just an agent speaking, but right now I’m just feeling general nervousness, not actual panic (yet).

Actually you’re right. Looked at the member list for the IIHF and the KHL wasn’t on there. Apparently they’ve got a parent organization that is.

Of all the Russian players who might decide to remain in the KHL, I’d rank Pavel dead last in that group. He loves the Red Wings. He loves the Detroit fans. And his place in hockey history is tied to the NHL. Period. End of story.

As much as I’d hate to lose anyone, least of all Datsuyk (and I even want Radulov over here), I do kind of hope that the NHL suffers some unexpected collateral damage for being such inept dickheads.
If that is just a huge chill with the KHL that puts the Olympics in jeopardy, that’s fine with me.

from a tweet by Igor Kleyner,

KHL pres Medvedev makes case that existing NHL contracts may not be binding because they are under new CBA, thus players may walk if chose

Komrade,

The KHL All Star events are this weekend.

The CBA might not even be ratifed until then, so why not stay.
