How About The Latest News Coming Out Of Pittsburgh?

from Josh Yohe of the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review,

He isn't anticipating the new coach will have the team's high profile, unrestricted free agents at his disposal.

Rutherford said on Monday that unrestricted free agents Matt Niskanen and Jussi Jokinen, in particular, will likely play elsewhere next season.

Niskanen and Jokinen increased their respective values by having excellent 2013-14 seasons.

“I've talked with them,” Rutherford said. “I think both players would like to return. But they're also coming off good years. It's time for them to hit free agency and get their big contracts. With that being said, we'll see what happens leading up to free agency.”

Rutherford declined to comment on defenseman Brooks Orpik, another unrestricted free agent.

Rutherford has said on numerous occasions that he'd like to have a coach in place when the free agency period opens on July 1. If that doesn't happen, dealing with players and agents could become problematic.

It seems like they hired a befuddled grandpa to be their GM.

This article is hilarious.

Let’s see….

You’d think the Penguins lost Toe Blake, not some minor-leaguer who has never been a head coach in the NHL. The overreaction is astounding. Desjardins may well be a quality coach. A savior, he isn’t.

The reaction is because some minor leaguer who has never been a head coach in the NHL snubbed the Penguins, not because the Pens lost out on some quality coach.

To emphasize: Less than a week ago, you had no idea who Desjardins is.

Now we know him as some minor leaguer who has never been a head coach who snubbed the Penguins.

Or perhaps Desjardins couldn’t handle the pressure of having to win immediately.
Or coaching two superstars, including the game’s best player.
There’s a reason Desjardins, at 57, has never had an NHL head coaching job.

I read this as…. LOL sour grapes sour grapes.
We still have Crosby.
Yet we offered him a job anyways.

Desjardins did the Penguins a favor. The Penguins can do better, and will do better.

Clearly. That’s why they offered the job to this guy first.

It would be funny if the Penguins turned to another relative unknown. The citizens will complain because they never heard of him … even as they continue to bemoan missing out on Desjardins, another relative unknown.

It is already funny. And again, the fans aren’t grumbling because the team offered the job to an unknown, they’re grumbling because the guy shot ‘em down.

The last five years were a dumpster fire. Coaching and management took a foolproof situation and mangled it.

Yep.

Rutherford just has to get it right. We don’t yet know that he won’t.

Except that he already hasn’t. Sure, he could turn it around, but that would be more luck at this point since his actual plan has already failed.

Rutherford is an amateur.

They could have avoided this entire situation if PeeAir was running the show.  grin
