from Curtis Pashelke of the Mercury News,
Martin Jones' shutout streak wasn't going to last forever. Neither was the Sharks' ability to kill one penalty after another.
But the Sharks did win their fourth in a row Friday, as Joe Pavelski and Brent Burns both scored in a shootout to give San Jose a 2-1 over the New Jersey Devils. Jones made a save on Jacob Josefson, and Mike Cammalleri's attempt went wide to end the game.
It was the Sharks' first game without center Logan Couture, who will miss the next four to six weeks after he suffered a fractured right fibula in practice on Thursday. But the Sharks killed off five of six minor penalties and held off a still-winless Devils team to remain unbeaten.
"After you lose a teammate like that you're a little concerned about maybe some emotional lag," Sharks forward Tommy Wingels said. " ... We got pucks deep, and overall I think we took a few too many penalties but grinded out a win."
