Proof positive that the NHL punishes results, not actions.

Yet nothing on Brown. Brilliant.

What an absolute crock. Shanaban has cleary lost his mind. His credibility is in the toilet, right along with that of the Midget Gnome who pays him.

It’s funny that if in the same situation, instead of going for a check Gryba swings his stick wildly at Eller’s head and misses he might be playing next game.  The NHL is full of just so much fail.

it reminded me of kronwall who’s never been suspended.  it was just a freak play fueled by a player who brain farted he was in back in the swiss league.

Agreed. He was only punished for the injury, not the hit. This is getting as bad as the NFL. What a joke.

Except that Kronwall has never hit anyone like that.

I think youngsters always get hit pretty hard.  kinda like rookies never getting calls in the nba.  or young pitchers not getting strike calls

Why is it that nearby everyone has said it’s a clean hit (Even Kerry Fraser) yet he gets suspended.  What a crock, Shanahan.

Where’s the Brown suspension anyways?  That was clearly intent to injure so I’m expecting at least four games for that.

So do you agree with the Gryba suspension?  And can you recall anything Kronwalls done that should have warranted a suspension but didn’t?

Maybe not with the same results, but he has caught players in similar positions before.

Gryba’s hit was clean.  Eller was set up for that hit by Diaz.  He should have been more aware and just let that pass go, and instead brace for the hit.

Meanwhile, Brown does his best Marchment impression, and no one at the league offices makes a peep.

Inconsistency, thy name is Brendan Shanahan.

suspending gryba for the next game isn’t the worst thing that could happen to gyrba.

I’m sure Gryba doesn’t see it that way.

I’m sure of that too.  I’m also sure he’d be absolutely berated tonight for something that was a freak thing.

I don’t think this is inconsistent at all.

Who was it, Ryan White that lined up a dude getting a sucker pass with a really bad route? Overshot his shoulder and got him in the face? If that guy got suspended, it’s the picture of consistency to suspend Gryba.

Dustin Brown trying to be a dirtbag, missing and getting off isn’t inconsistency. It’s apples and Oranges. I may not like it, but the governors have always looked the other way on stuff like that.

Punishing what most people saw as a legal check and not even mentioning a knee-to-knee AND attempted flying elbow (in the same motion, no less) is absolutely “inconsistent” with what the NHL has been claiming they want removed from the game.

Both were sequences that could have resulted in serious injury; one did, the other didn’t. That’s the only difference here. This is yet another example of the NHL failing to address “intent” with regard to supplemental discipline; their actions are quite inconsistent with their rhetoric.

It might be if Gryba had hit Eller in the face/head. He didn’t. He hit him in the body at exactly the moment the puck was there. That’s a legal hit.

Shanaban is either blind or a league tool to claim that the “principal point of contact” was the head. Just watch the much better video of the whole thing along with Kerry Frasier’s analysis in this post. The principal point of contact was Gryba’s shoulder against Eller’s chest.

The damage to Eller’s face came from hitting the ice face first. It should have nothing to do with whether or not Gryba gets a suspension – because the initial hit was legal.

I can’t believe all you fuchers who think this was a clean hit. Frasier’s analysis is a steaming pile of pure 100% grade A horsesh!t.

Look at his goddamn head, watch it snap back on contact. Watch how his body flies through the air. If Kerry were correct and the contact were made on the ‘hip’ first, no way in this universe and our laws of gravity and physics does his body get whipped around like that.

WAKE THE FUCH UP!

Eller’s head snapped back precisely because Gryba hit him in the chest. And that’s also what caused his body to spin around. If Gryba had hit Eller’s head first, he would have dropped like a rock.

But from your use of “colorful” language, I’m guessing logic isn’t an argument that will carry much weight with you.

Oh, oh, yes, I see - he hit him on the chest! But I thought, according to TSN he hit him on the

hip

? Now we’ve got three competing views! How lovely.

Yes, of course, I see it now - his head snaps back at a 90 degree angle before any other part of his body is propelled as a result of the hit, all because he was hit on the chest!

Had I spoken English as politely as the Queen, it wouldn’t make a difference because you’ve already made up your mind. Logic isn’t “an argument” and yours has none.

Like I said, wake up.

Unlike you who has a completely open mind about all of this.

I guess we’ll just have to agree to disagree.

You can at least do that, right?
