General Managers Held A Meeting Today

added 3:54pm, via Elliotte Friedman tweets,

NHL and its GMs finished their meeting last hour. Things to know: no certainty about starting date/format for the 2020-21 season. Too many unknowns (border, etc.) to commit to anything, although conversations with NHLPA Return to Play Committee should begin in next while (1/x)...

There was an in-depth conversation about draft lottery. There are teams that would like to see a change in the format. NHL asked for specific proposals, and we will see where that goes...(2/x)

There is an appetite to begin next season with something special from a unique site. Lake Louise was discussed, but that won't be possible. But that's the kind of idea that's being brainstormed...(3/4)

Jan. 1 remains the "target date," as the NHL indicated yesterday. But, again, no guarantees. (Fin)

Sure, now they are talking about changing the draft lottery.

I sincerely hope any changes take into account recent lottery picks so teams can “win” multiple lotteries in a short period of time.

If you open up Friedman’s tweet in another tab or window, you will find the amazing discussion they’re having about tweaking or changing format of the draft lottery.  Apparently, the odds changed in 2015-2016 so that the the bottom three teams will go through three separate lotteries for each draft position.  It was a response to EDM having the first overall pick for three of four years up to include their drafting of Connie Mac.  It is a riveting conversation that I found intriguing for Twitter.
