Game 7 Advantage Goes To The New York Rangers

from Larry Brooks of the New York Post,

We all know about the Hurricanes’ fortress in Raleigh, N.C., where they have gone 7-0 this postseason, but let me tell you, the Rangers are operating within a Fortress of Solitude on their side that might be of more value.

Because the Blueshirts will go into Game 7 on Monday night at Carolina with goaltender Igor Shesterkin providing a growing and dramatic disparity in net when measured against the suddenly floundering Antti Raanta, who was yanked very early in the second period of the Blueshirts’ 5-2 Game 6 victory at the Garden on Saturday night.

This second-round series may in fact come down to location, location, location. The relevant piece of property, however, might be not Carolina’s home arena, but rather the vicinity around the nets at either end of the rink. If the Rangers can press that advantage, a trip to the conference finals to take on the mighty Lightning will loom.

“Tonight was a very important game,” Shesterkin, apparently a master of the obvious in any language, said through a translator. “We had to win and that’s what we did.”

I don’t agree or disagree about who’ll win on monday, but who is still paying this guy for these crap pieces? “Feels like the Rangers should win?”

That’s what they’re going with?

It takes little to no skill to be working for these giant news corps. The write worse than a high schooler.

What’s more absurd is that a team like NYR, can go deep into the playoffs, then tank one year, get a top 5 pick and then go right back into the playoffs. If this isn’t a glaring hole in the current drafting system, then I don’t know what will be.

Montreal and CHI are the same, both had similar events. Montreal is the most recent.

No team that goes into the playoffs should be getting a top 10 pick.

Getting a first and second, overall, in consecutive years,
not long after some playoff runs, is basically unimaginable
to a Red Wings fan. The team was never bad. They decided to take the initiative to
rebuild very early. But they were never a bad team.

It does come off a little like the CEO using the carried interest loophole to pay almost nothing in taxes while the secretary pays the full rate.

As for Brooks, he has his moments - but also moments like this where
he’s just filling space. I do appreciate that he’s a lifer who has a long knowledge of the game and he does sometimes ask challenging questions and raise interesting issues. But yeah, on this one he’s not adding much more than Shesterkin’s quotes.

The NY Post ignores the NJ Devils and Islanders in a big way.  That’s their call.  Larry Brook$ is a Jekyll/Hyde -  super hyper partisan Rag$, Original Six, no salary cap and thinks only certain teams deserve to be competitive, and then at other times - digs in past this to other NHL teams (in his SlapShots) and writes some compelling and interesting stuff and says things that need to be said.

Wearing my objective hat, the Rangers have played well, taken advantage of good health and good fortune and this young group is improved and yes, Igor is a terrific goalie.  Though, I am not ready to concede he is even the best goalie in New York.

Wearing my orange and blue hat - the Rag$ have been very impressive - taking a team using (by and large) a third string goalie and taking them to OT in Game 7 to eliminate them and a team now without a starter in the nets and taking them to game 7.  Brook$ does indeed have street cred.  He covered the Isles for the Post in the Cup years and then went to work for the Devils in PR before rejoining the Post to cover his true love - the Rag$.

As for the series, I still hope the Home team wins every game in this series!

Ah, Brooksy.  Everyone’s favorite cart-before-the-horse kinda guy.

Attaboy, Brooksy.
