ANAHEIM, Calif. – The Anaheim Ducks announced today that the National Hockey League (NHL) club has acquired Toronto’s first-round draft pick (30th overall - originally Pittsburgh’s selection) in 2016 and a 2017 second-round draft pick in exchange for goaltender Frederik Andersen.

The Ducks now have two first round picks (24th and 30th) in the 2016 NHL Draft, set for this Friday in Buffalo, New York.

Andersen, 26 (10/2/89), played 43 regular season games with Anaheim last year, going 22-9-7 with a 2.30 goals-against average (GAA) and .919 save percentage (SV%). He was drafted by Anaheim in the third round (87th overall) of the 2012 NHL Draft. Andersen has appeared in 125 career NHL games, going 77-26-12 with a 2.33 GAA and .918 SV%. He also appeared in 28 NHL playoff games with the Ducks, going 17-9 with a 2.34 GAA and .916 SV%.

Ouch. No doubt that 2017 second rounder is going to be an early pick, too. Pretty steep price.

For potentially their goalie of the future? I thought it was low

Lots to give up just to have signing rights for the next few days.

Well, he’s an RFA and as often as offer sheets happen I wouldn’t imagine they have to be in any kind of hurry.

Cue the new goalie drama.  Bernier or Andersen.  Neither are standout #1’s right now.

They’ve had a lot of Goalies of the Future.  Andersen probably will be indistinguishable from the rest, to be honest.

So this means the Ducks are now GIbson’s?

Gibson has been treated with kid gloves by the Ducks for the last few season never allowing him to get mentally worn out by playing to many games especially after and loses.
Andersen I doubt will be worth this trade in picks lol go Buds hahaha.

Pretty much that. Andersen is a good goalie but I doubt Toronto is at the point where that’s there main need, and on his own, he’ll provide a marginally better outcome than Gustavsson, Reimer, Bernier etc at best before the wolves set in and kick him to the ground.

As an RFA he pretty much is guaranteed to sign with the team isn’t he?

Pierre LeBrun tweet,

Murray says they need to get a veteran backup now who can play 25-30 games a year. “There’s a few of them out there.”

So that’s what proper asset management looks like.

Great trade for the Leafs. Andersen is an excellent goalie. This move settles there need for goaltending for the immediate future.

Bob McKenzie tweet,

Andersen’s AAV is $5M on the button. $25M total value for five years.

Great deal for the Laughs, I have to say.

They will be paying Andersen, who is excellent, less to be their starter than we are paying Howard, who is terrible, to be our backup.

No wonder Babs would rather work there, eh?

I hate the Leafs and their fans but would you rather be a fan of the Leafs or Wings currently?  Which team has a brighter future?  All because our GM is incompetent

Today?

Toronto.

It’s Toronto’s attempt to do what the Sharks did with Jones last season. That worked out pretty well.

Andersson is quality goalie. Now we’ll see how he handles the extra pressure with a defense nowhere near as solid as Anaheim.
