Davidson Hoping Blue Jackets Grow With Him

from Michael Arace of the Columbus Dispatch,
“We’re 10 games in, but I think I’ve seen the good and the bad,” Davidson said. “When we’ve played to our max, we’ve played hard and with some passion, and when we do that, we play well defensively. That’s our reality. That is what we have to be. When we don’t care of the little details, the fundamentals, we don’t play well.”
He likes to say that this is a brick-by-brick project, and, for the time being, he is sticking with the bricks he has on hand. Although defensemen James Wisniewski, Nikita Nikitin and Adrian Aucoin are shelved with injuries, there is no impetus to make a deal to shore the position. Rather, Davidson wants to get a read on Tim Erixon, David Savard and Nick Holden.
“There is some growth to be had and we’ve got to see who is going to show that they have a good, strong future here,” Davidson said.
Davidson is selling this to season-ticket holders with the catchphrase, “Come grow with us.” He sold the same thing in St. Louis. The process begins with a clean slate, for all players — including goalie Steve Mason, who was sterling in a victory over Detroit on Saturday night.
