Corey Perry On The Move

via TSN,

The old adage is if you can't beat, join 'em and  is doing just that.

Kevin Weekes reports the veteran winger has signed a two-year deal with the Tampa Bay Lightning, the team that beat his Montreal Canadiens in the Stanley Cup Final.

Perry was also a member of the Dallas Stars team that reached the 2020 Stanley Cup Final where they, too, fell to the Lightning.

Perry, 36, signed a one-year $750,000 contract with the Habs last season and tallied nine goals and 12 assists in 49 regular season games.

Note, Kevin Weekes has blocked me for over a year, no idea why, so I was delayed a bit with this news.

2 year deal with a small raise for Perry to join Tampa? Hmm… would have thought you could’ve gotten him on a 1 year, but this does help Tampa shore that 4th line up and the dude has been a playoff performer the last two years for sure.

TAMPA BAY - The Tampa Bay Lightning have signed forward Corey Perry to a two-year contract worth $1 million AAV, vice president and general manager Julien BriseBois announced today.

Perry, 36, skated in 49 games with the Montreal Canadiens last season, posting nine goals and 21 points to go along with 39 penalty minutes. The 6-foot-3, 206-pound forward ranked seventh on the Canadiens for goals and was ninth for points. Perry also appeared in 22 Stanley Cup Playoff games last year, posting four goals and 10 points. He ranked fourth on the team for points and was second for penalty minutes (25) during the postseason.

“We are excited to add Corey today, who brings with him a wealth of big game experience to the Lightning,” BriseBois said. “He will be an excellent addition to the line-up and we are thrilled to add another high-character player to our group who can contribute to the organization’s overall depth.”

I’m pretty sure these kind of moves are what we are going to see from Tampa for the next 5-10 years. The additions or both Perry, Bellemare, Maroon and Bogosian were good cheap moves and great compliments to the rest of their roster.
