Coaching Changes In A Short Season?

from Allan Muir of Sports Illustrated,

Less than two weeks into this exceptional season and already the wolves are circling.

In Pittsburgh, Dan Bylsma is being pilloried for his in-game management. In Colorado, Joe Sacco’s toughness is questioned. In Dallas, fans are grumbling about Glen Gulutzan’s lack of bench presence. In Florida…in Carolina…

Anywhere teams are losing, panic buttons are being mashed by fans who are only too aware of the playoff implications of a slow start. Car pools are being organized to help ex-coaching staffs get to the airport. Wish lists of possible bench bosses are being drawn up on cocktail napkins.

Change needs to happen, and it needs to happen now, before it’s too late. Right? Right?

No way Bylsma is going anywhere right now. No way. But if he does…interesting.

I was so happy that Therrien was gone that I thought good Bylsma here now that Hardheadedness is Gone, Bylsma is a Players coach BUT he is just as obstinate as Therrien he will NOT change anything just keeps uttering inanities like “We have to Get to our Game” & ‘Who is going to wear the cape”

He gets outcoached because his refusal to readjust to the other teams adjustments

I know you like him because he is a Michigan guy but as I said above

I’ve Bylsma, but maybe the team has gotten its fill of players’ coach and needs another hard ass…

.(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address) See that is the NHL mindset that I hate If you fire a Hardass you replace him with a Nice Guy Players coach & vice versa, the Pens need a X’s & O’s coach

remember Bylsma was a HC in AHL for Half a season as he took over for Todd Richards who was hired as SJ HC before becoming the Pens HC

Half the players in the NHL right now are in the last week of training camp-mode. Things will ‘normalize’ in the next five games or so.

To chop a coach before then would be absurd.

.(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address) I know you mean all coaches, But BYlsma has been doing & not doing the same thing for 3 seasons

since they won the Cup he has installed his “system” & they have lost early in the playoffs each season

Bylsma’s not going anywhere….

BUT, GMRS has $9 million available to play with if this funk gets any worse, and it wouldn’t surprise me at all if he makes a significant move, not just a waiver pickup….

Same argument could be made about Babcock. But I guess these guys are doing their best with the material they have.
