Before The Puck Drops On Game 7 Tonight

NEW YORK -- The Carolina Hurricanes and New York Rangers will decide their Eastern Conference Second Round series when they meet in Game 7 on Monday, May 30 in Raleigh (8 p.m., ET, ESPN, SN, TVAS). The winner will advance to the Eastern Conference Final against the Tampa Bay Lightning.

The Hurricanes will welcome the Rangers to PNC Arena for the sixth Game 7 of the 2022 Stanley Cup Playoffs, one shy of the most in a single postseason. Carolina owns an all-time record of 6-3 in Game 7s, including 3-0 at home; New York is 10-6, including a 2-5 mark on the road.

The Hurricanes have won each of their past six Game 7s, a streak that began with current head coach Rod Brind’Amour scoring the series-clinching goal in the 2006 Conference Finals versus Buffalo en route to the franchise’s only Stanley Cup championship. Carolina can become the first team in Stanley Cup Playoffs history to earn seven consecutive Game 7 wins.

The Rangers, meanwhile, are 7-1 in their past eight Game 7s since 2012, including a win in their most recent road contest (against the Pittsburgh Penguins in the Second Round in 2014).

Monday's showdown is the finale of the 22nd best-of-seven series all-time in which the home team has won all games entering Game 7. The home team has won all seven games 11 times, with the Hurricanes-Bruins matchup in the 2022 First Round being the latest. The road team has managed to turn the tables 10 times in Game 7. The Hurricanes were the last club to break the “home team wins” trend, claiming Game 7 on the road in Washington during the 2019 First Round.

Four players on the Hurricanes and Rangers current rosters -- two on each side -- have scored an overtime goal in Game 7 of the Stanley Cup Playoffs:\

* Carolina forward Nino Niederreiter, then with Minnesota, gave the Wild a 5-4 win over the Colorado Avalanche in the First Round in 2014.

* Carolina forward Derek Stepan, then with the Rangers, gave New York a 2-1 win against the Washington Capitals in the Second Round in 2015.

* Rangers forward Barclay Goodrow, then with San Jose, gave the Sharks a 5-4 win over current Rangers head coach Gerard Gallant and the Vegas Golden Knights in the First Round in 2019.

* Rangers forward Artemi Panarin scored the series-winner against the Pittsburgh Penguins in the First Round earlier this month, a 4-3 decision at Madison Square Garden.
