from Mike Heika of the Dallas Morning News,
The Dallas Stars are the worst back-to-back team in the NHL over the past two seasons, falling to 1-15-2 on Wednesday after a disheartening 7-4 loss to the Calgary Flames.
And while the Stars struggle for explanations to their problems, the evidence is overwhelming that they simply cannot handle the issue of playing on back-to-back nights. Dallas was outscored 52-24 while going 1-11-2 last season. They have gone 0-4-0 this year while being outscored 12-5.
“It’s a problem,” said Stars captain Brenden Morrow, who had two goals. “We talk about it every game, about making changes, about superstitions we might have. It’s something we have to fix.”
And while it would be easy to say the Stars are simply not the same team when Kari Lehtonen is not in goal, that explanation might be too simple.
