from Mike Chambers of the Denver Post,
After allowing a short-handed goal late in the first period and trailing 2-0 early in the second, the Avs put together their most important hockey in what is shaping up to be a thrilling playoff push. They got four combined goals from their top two lines and top defensive pairing in what turned out to be a 5-2 victory over the Calgary Flames at the Pepsi Center.
The triumph moved the Avs (34-24-5, 73 points) to within a point of the last Western Conference playoff spot, but with games in hand over those teams (Los Angeles, Anaheim, St. Louis) immediately in front of them. They have played two fewer games than Calgary (32-24-9), which also has 73 points.
“I think we have a deep hunger to get to where we want to go. That’s what it comes down to,” Avs coach Jared Bednar said. “Every team has their structure in place at this point, and winning habits have been there for us. Sometimes we get stubborn with the puck and turn it over in places we should it comes back on us. But when we’re willing to stick to our game like we did tonight … we get rewarded for it.”
